John Bishop suffered a broken ankle after a motorcycle accident.
The comedian, 59, pulled out of a charity bike ride this Sunday with 50-year-old Olympic track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy – who has stage four prostate cancer – after getting into trouble during a motorcycle ride with 54-year-old astronaut Tim Peake.
In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, John said: “I have an announcement to make.
‘I was meant to wear this shirt for Prostate Cancer UK on Sunday’s stage 4 ride with Chris Hoy.’
Showing a photo of his broken right ankle in a leg brace, the Doctor Who star continued: ‘Unfortunately I won’t be there. Because of this I can’t wear this shirt this year.’
Back in the shot, John then explained the cause of his injury.
He said: ‘I went for a motorbike ride today with Tim Peake, a brilliant guy and a great motorcyclist.

“And I learned a lesson today: astronauts are better bikers than comedians, and so it looks like I broke my ankle, which means I unfortunately can’t make the ride.”
The Skins entertainer added: ‘But please continue to support Prostate Cancer UK and support Sir Chris Hoy on his ride on Sunday.’
John signed off: “Thank you very much. I’m sorry to miss it.’
He captioned the upload: ‘So gutted to miss Sir Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 this Sunday due to injury. I was really looking forward to participating and helping raise awareness and vital funds for prostate cancer research.
“Although I can’t be there, I will be cheering on everyone who participates.
‘Please continue to support Chris, the incredible riders and this brilliant cause.
‘Good luck to everyone riding on Sunday!’
Chris led the congratulations for John in the comments section of the post.
He wrote: ‘Heal quickly buddy! We’re so sorry we can’t see you, but there’s always next year!’
He said on Instagram: ‘On Sunday I was meant to wear this shirt for Prostate Cancer UK on the stage 4 ride with Chris Hoy. Unfortunately I won’t be there…’

Tim typed, “I feel bad for you buddy, you were a rock star, but I’m so sorry you have to miss this. ‘Until next time!! (sic)’
One fan wrote: ‘Awh John, sorry to hear that. I wish you a speedy recovery (sic).”
A second supporter responded: ‘Ouch. This sucks. I hope you recover quickly, John (sic).”
And a third follower said: ‘Get well soon John, don’t let that stop you from getting back on your bike though! All the best (sic).”
John – who has been married to his wife Melanie since 1993 – started riding motorcycles in 2023 after his late father-in-law Mike gave him his scooter when he died.
