The NFL halftime show held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday was almost completely derailed after a Jonas Brother missed his flight to Australia.
The game between San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams was the first-ever regular season NFL game to be played in Australia.
However, singer Joe Jonas, one third of the Jonas Brothers, announced on Thursday that he almost didn’t make it to the historic competition.
At a fan event at the MCG, brothers Nick and Kevin Jonas met their followers but Joe, 37, was noticeably absent.
During the meet-and-greet, a video greeting from Joe was shown, with the singer explaining that his flight to Melbourne had been delayed.
‘I’m in Dubai. I was delayed in London,” he explained.

‘I think there was a radar problem, which delayed and canceled every flight. So I’ll be here until 2:45 am.’
His brothers Nick, 33, and Kevin, 38, went on to say that Joe “wanted to be here” with his fans but would instead arrive in time for the NFL show on Friday morning.
It comes after American football fans were noticeably disgruntled when they saw the aging boy band at the Rams-49ers game.
“This Jonas Brothers performance is why we don’t hit quarterbacks anymore,” podcaster and former Tennessee Titans player Will Compton wrote on X, where he humorously blamed the band for the NFL’s new-age rules in protecting quarterbacks.
Others were more direct.
“I’m sorry, but we don’t need a Jonas Brothers halftime concert in week 1,” one fan wrote in an X post.

“This is a mockery of the game,” another added. ‘It’s pointless. Consider this a true season game.”
Sean Koerner from Action Network headquarters made no bones about it: “Sending the Jonas Brothers to bring peace to Australia is a war crime.”
In total, the band created five songs, including the hits Burnin’ Up, Sucker and Listen When Sad, according to a Jonas Brothers fan account on X.
That account also shared photos of Jonas Brothers NFL merchandise, including a $65 t-shirt and a $135 hoodie, although it is unclear whether those prices were in US dollars or Australian dollars.
Not everyone hated the show. Some NFL fans were simply stunned to see the Jonas Brothers at halftime of a game at the MCG.
‘My wife asked [me] to put on the halftime show because the Jonas Brothers are singing,” one fan wrote on X. “I asked if they were performing because they are from Australia.”
He then added, “I was rudely told they are from New Jersey.”
Some football fans were even excited to see Nick, Joe and Kevin.
“Jonas Brothers halftime show,” Kingdom of Queens podcaster Lexi Osborne wrote on X. “I’m in HEAVEN.”
