Jodie Whittaker has revealed she’s “bursting into tears” when she talks about her departure from Doctor Who.

The 40-year-old actress has portrayed the eponymous Time Lord on screen for four years and will be stepping out of the sci-fi series in her final episode in October.

But despite being emotional about the end of the chapter, she’s also set out her excitement for the big finale episode to air – calling it a “real treat” for fans.

Speak with Empire Magazine at her impending departure, Jodie admitted, “I can’t talk about it without crying. When I could see that the crew was happy with that last shot, my lower lip started to tremble.

“I was like, ‘Well, they can’t say they need another take now because I’ve lost it!'” she joked.

But despite the emotional aspect of the scenes, Jodie, who became the first female doctor in the show’s history in 2017, was pleased with the outcome of her final episode.

Jodie has previously said she’s leaving the coveted role this year because she feels it needs “new energy.”

And she will pass the Time Lord baton to Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa, explaining that she was “happy” with the “wonderful dialogue” in her final scenes.

During the finale, the star will reportedly pay tribute to past Time Lords by donning their iconic outfits throughout the full-length episode – which will be titled The Power of the Doctor.

With plenty of surprises in store, Jodie called the episode “a real treat” for fans – as it will lead into the next phase of Doctor Who, with Russell T Davies as showrunner and Ncuti starting its run.

Earlier this year, showrunner Davies teased, “It’s a 90-minute epic, it’s fantastic. So that’s great with a lot of surprises,” during an appearance on The One Show.

While you were chatting with Empire MagazineJodie explained: “It’s got all the iconic stuff you associate with Doctor Who, it’s huge.”

Ncuti becomes the first black doctor in the show’s history, marking another milestone for the long-running BBC series.
