Jess Glynne is presented with a surprise award by her parents after reaching a billion streams in the UK at a private performance of new album

Jess Glynne was surprised with an award for reaching a billion streams in the UK by her proud parents at a private listening party.

The 34-year-old singer performed her new album for her family and friends when her father Lawrence and mother Alex surprised her on stage.

A video obtained by MailOnline shows the moment her parents interrupted to present her with the award as she joined an elite group of successful artists.

As they walked towards her, Jess said, “Mom and Dad! What is happening?’

Her mother Alex explained that they were very proud to present her with the Brit Billion award, to which Jess replied: ‘Brit billion! She has a billion streams!’

Lawrence said: “This award recognizes an exclusive number of artists who have had more than a billion streams in the UK. And you belong to that group of elite artists who have achieved that.’

‘It makes us very proud and this album goes there!’

Jess has won the prestigious BRIT billion award for reaching over 1 billion streams in the UK.

Ed Sheeran was the first person to receive the award, since then it has been presented to ABBA, Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding, among others.

The Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter released her latest single Enough in February.

The single appears on her new album JESS, which was released on April 26 via EMI Records.

Written in Los Angeles and produced with Adele hitmaker Greg Kurstin, Enough is an optimistic song that chronicles Jess’ relationship with self-esteem and acceptance.

Speaking of your single, Jess said: ‘Enough is the first song I knew would 100% be on the album. I wrote it in 2020, when I was going through a lot in my life.

Her mother Alex explained that they were very proud to present her with the Brit Billion award, to which Jess replied: ‘Brit billion! She has a billion streams!’

‘Everyone had gone through it that year and I was hit hard by a feeling of insecurity and lack of self-esteem. I was going through a lot of changes personally and professionally and my self-confidence was really affected.

“As soon as we started writing, I was reminded in that moment by the people in the room that I am enough and that I am so proud of how far I have come.

“I’ve paid my dues, I’ve grafted and I’ll never be made to feel like I’m not good enough again. I hope others manage to feel hope and get the same strength from it as I do – we are all enough and there is no going back to feeling different.

‘At that moment I knew in my gut, because of the feeling this song gave me, that this had to be the first single from my new album.’

The music video Enough, directed by Olivia Rose, who also worked on Jorja Smith’s Blue Lights and Anne-Marie ft. Shania Twain’s Unhealthy, sees Jess as you’ve never seen her before as she runs through the streets of London.

Last year Jess shared three new songs from the upcoming album, Silly Me, What Do You Do and Friend of Mine.

Featuring her most personal work to date, this new music collection adds to Jess’ repertoire of more than ten billion global streams.

Speaking about the album, Jess explained: ‘If I were to sum up this album, first and foremost I would say that this album is unapologetically mine, and that’s why I had to call it Jess.

‘It’s about moving on and allowing myself to be safe, powerful, sexy, vulnerable and strong. I’ve allowed myself to be raw and honest with my lyrics.

‘It’s realizing why I love music and came into contact with it. Listening to artists like Amy Winehouse, Joni Mitchell, Lauryn Hill, and Prince has inspired me to be the truest version of myself, and reminded me why I was inspired to write, sing, and feel.

‘I have been given so much freedom musically, artistically and creatively. No one has set boundaries for me and it has given me the opportunity to be free and make Jess the album I really want.”
