Jeremy Allen White was spotted filming his upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic as fans fumed over a first photo of him in the role.

A promotional photo was released on social media on Monday, showing 33-year-old White in the role of ‘The Boss’ for the film Deliver Me From Nowhere.

The photo immediately received a scathing response online, as observers noted that White looks different from Springsteen.

Amid the backlash, White, 33, was spotted Monday on the set of the film in New Jersey, where Springsteen was born and raised.

He was dressed in a costume that matched the 1980s setting of the film, including a khaki jacket, faded jeans, black leather low boots and a large leather bag.

A day earlier, White was spotted on the set of the film wearing similarly retro attire, including a gray page boy cap and a black leather jacket.

His red flannel shirt was left partially open, revealing his white undershirt, and the look was paired with skin-tight charcoal jeans.

White’s costume was strikingly reminiscent of the film’s setting in the early 1980s, well into Springsteen’s international fame.

The controversial first look photo, released Monday by 20th Century Studios, showed White in the same outfit he wore on set on Sunday.

While the Golden Globe winner may have captured Springsteen’s somber look, social media users insisted he looks nothing like the rocker.

“I’m sorry, I love JAW and I’m sure he’ll do a great job, but he looks nothing like Bruce Springsteen and I think this is such a weird casting choice,” one user wrote on X.

White mimicking Springsteen’s style choices in the photo wasn’t enough to convince many that he’s the right person to portray the Born in the USA singer.

Some on social media claimed the image showed nothing but “Jeremy Allen White in a.” checked shirt.’

“So Jeremy Allen White as… Jeremy Allen White… in denim,” an X user wrote.

“Still looks like Jeremy Allen White is wearing a Bruce Springsteen outfit,” another added.

yet another wrote: ‘This is the most Jeremy Allen White Jeremy Allen White has ever looked at.’

Other social media users were nevertheless excited to see White Springsteen play.

“I’m excited to see Jeremy Allen White bring Bruce Springsteen to life! I can’t wait for the movie to hit theaters!’ said an X user posted.

Another claimed that the actor ‘bring intensely‘ on the role.

‘I can see it. He’s got that kind of rough, ‘ugly handsome’ look about him that Brue had in his youth’, another thing wrote.

Deliver Me From Nowhere is an adaptation of a book of the same name written by Warren Zane. The film’s writer and director, Scott Cooper, called the production an “incredibly humbling and exciting journey.”

“The album’s raw, unvarnished portrayal of life’s trials and resilience resonates deeply with me,” Cooper said in a statement to Variety.

“Our film aims to capture that same spirit and bring Warren Zanes’ compelling story of Bruce’s life to the screen in an authentic and hopeful way, honoring Bruce’s legacy in a transformative cinematic experience.”

Filming will take place primarily in locations in New York and New Jersey, but occasionally scenes will be shot in Los Angeles.

Allen’s co-stars include Jeremy Strong, Odessa Young and Stephen Graham.

The Bear actor was a ‘top choice’ to play Springsteen and was confirmed to star in the film in April.

White revealed Term last month how ‘excited’ he was to star in the film.

“I can say that I have a very nice team of people helping me and Bruce has been very kind, supportive and available, which has made this whole process an extra joy,” White said.

Springsteen discussed the upcoming biopic earlier this month, saying he felt good about the “whole project.”

“I saw the scripts and talked to the director,” Springsteen said.

“They’re putting it all together, so I don’t have a whole lot to say about it, but I’m happy that it’s happening.”
