Jenna Ortega has revealed a bizarre object she came across while staying at eccentric director Tim Burton’s California home.
Although the Beetlejuice director is known for his gothic filmmaking style, it seems that this is also reflected in the decor of his home.
“You walk in and it’s the huge throne from Alice in Wonderland,” the 21-year-old actress said Vanity Fair.
Then she said, “There’s a jar of eyeballs in the bathroom.”
Filmmaker Edward Scissorhands is also known for carrying small figurines in his pockets, objects Ortega calls “his little creatures.”
Jenna Ortega often keeps her cards close to her chest when she talks about her life, but she spilled a little truth about director Tim Burton and his decorating style. “You walk in and it’s the giant throne from Alice in Wonderland,” the actress, 21, told Vanity Fair. “There’s a jar of eyeballs in the bathroom.”
The former Disney star worked with the iconic director on the hit Netflix series Wednesday, which is now in production for its second season, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which hits theaters September 6.
“He just put a script in my hand, and it was Beetlejuice,” the actress said.
“Most of the last year and a half felt very distant from me,” Ortega told the newspaper, describing the experience as “very dissociative, strange and out of body.”
“When people say my name, it’s almost like my name has been taken away from me. Now I feel like I’m floating and… I’m open to interpretation.”
What is not up for interpretation is the young star’s dedication to her craft. She has been a working actress since she was 10, having had small roles in various guest appearances until she was cast as the title character in the 2014 YouTube series Know It All Nina.
Ortega also played Young Jane, Gina Rodriguez’s adult character, on Jane the Virgin for several years.
Ortega is in Dublin, where she is filming the second season of Wednesday.
After admitting on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepherd and Monica Padman that she had behaved in an “almost unprofessional” manner on the set of the hit series based on The Addams Family, the young actress appears to be rethinking her approach.
“To be honest… I probably could have used my words better to describe all of that. I guess I’m such a scatterbrain a lot of the time,” she explained.
“I think it was difficult because I felt like if I had portrayed the situation better, it probably would have been better received.”
Ortega is now a producer on the show and is excited to have an official say in what Wednesday does and says.
Ortega, 21, worked with the iconic director on season two of Wednesday in Dublin, which she hinted will feature new villains and supernatural powers. ‘We’re doing something where Wednesday just shows up. She’s a bit of a jump scare herself’
The actress also worked with Burton on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which hits theaters Sept. 6. “He just put a script in my hand and it was Beetlejuice,” the actress said.
“I live for this kind of stuff,” the Emmy nominee claimed.
“We’re doing this thing now where Wednesday just shows up. She’s a bit of a jump scare herself.”
She didn’t go into details, but she did indicate that Wednesday’s second season will have new villains, supernatural powers and a more horror-like atmosphere, but not too scary.
“I mean, there are six-year-olds watching,” she said.
