Jeanne du Barry official trailer: Johnny Depp returns to the big screen after three-year hiatus

The official trailer of the upcoming movie Jeanne du Barry came out earlier this week.

In the French biographical film, Johnny Depp, 59, makes his grand return to the big screen, playing the role of King Louis XV — starring actress and director Maïwenn, 46.

In the preview, the Golden Globe winner appears as the silver-haired monarch as he takes on a royal mistress – after whom the film is named.

This film marks his comeback and will be his first project in three years since his victory in the much-discussed defamation lawsuit to ex-wife Amber Heard, 36.

However, prior to release, Maïwenn was accused by a journalist of ‘spit in his face’ and is now being charged with the reported assault.

Official Trailer: In the recently released trailer for Jeanne du Barry, Johnny Depp, 59, makes his grand return to the big screen, playing the role of King Louis XV

The video begins with Jeanne Vaubernier — played by Maïwenn Le Besco — charming a crowd of guests at a party.

Later, she is seen making an impressive entrance at Versailles after the narration reveals that her husband intended to present her to the King – promo photos of which were released earlier this year.

After Jeanne is instructed not to look directly at the king, she boldly does so, knowing it is an “invitation to intimacy.”

Despite understanding that she will later face displeasure from the court, she does not listen and King Louis XV falls completely in love with her.

The rest of the trailer shows all those in the king’s inner circle – including his royal advisers and his daughters – voicing their disapproval.

He ignores the advice and continues the love affair until passion soon turns into a scandal.

“You discover the dark side of the king,” Jeanne is later told at the climax of the trailer.

In the final shot, she runs up a flight of stairs that seemingly leads nowhere, as a voice says (translated from French), “You are in grave danger, madame.”
