Jay Leno is spotted picking up food at a restaurant in Beverly Hills after a judge granted him conservatorship of his dementia stricken wife Mavis

Jay Leno was spotted picking up food in Beverly Hills, California on Tuesday after he was officially granted conservatorship over his wife, Mavis, who has dementia.

The former late night show host was spotted behind the wheel, wearing his classic light blue denim shirt for the outing in Los Angeles.

Wearing dark blue jeans and black shoes, he got out of his red Fiat 500 to have a meal at a local restaurant.

Earlier on Tuesday, a judge ruled that Leno, 73, was fit to serve as his wife’s conservator amid her battle with dementia.

In January, Leno petitioned the Los Angeles Supreme Court to be appointed conservator, saying her condition left her unable to manage her own affairs.

People reported that Mavis’ attorney said she agreed with the conservatorship during a hearing earlier today in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The judge addressed Leno, 73, and said, “Everything you do is right. “I’m really going through a rough patch before I confirmed he was fit to be her conservator,” the outlet reported.

Leno also told the court he was doing estate planning and inspecting his wife’s will.

In a filing last week in support of Leno’s petition, her attorney Ronald Ostrin said her declining mental capacity had brought sadness to their otherwise “perfect” marriage of 43 years.

“According to (Mavis’) neurologist Dr. Hart Cohen, she has advanced dementia and sometimes does not know her husband Jay or her date of birth,” Ostrin said.

‘She has a lot of disorientation, worries about her parents who are both deceased and her mother who died about twenty years ago.’

Dr. Cohen told Ostrin that Leno, 73, “loves his wife very much and wanted to discuss this matter out of respect for her.”

Ostrin said he has all of Dr.’s medical records. Cohen had viewed before speaking privately with Mavis herself.

“We were able to talk for a long time and we discussed her wishes and desires about the procedure (the curatorship) and about her testamentary wishes,” he writes.

‘Mrs. Leno was a wonderful person, and even though it was clear she had a cognitive disability, she still had a charming personality and was able to communicate.”

Dr. Cohen added, “She expressed a desire to vote and told me a little about her philanthropic work.

The couple has been married for 43 years after tying the knot in 1980

The couple is seen in one of their earlier photos from 1979 attending the taping of The Merv Griffin Show in Beverly Hills.

Leno said of Mavis, “She’s doing well, everyone’s doing well, we’re doing well. I just made a will in case something happens.” The couple is pictured in 2022

The couple was spotted at his comedy show in West Hollywood last week, as they were pictured leaving The Improv.

Dressed in casual outfits, the pair appeared in good spirits before driving away in Jay’s red sports car.

In a brief exclusive interview with DailyMail.com in January, shortly after filing for the conservatorship, Leno said of Mavis, “She’s doing well, everyone’s doing well, we’re doing well. I just made a will in case something happens.”

In his lawsuit, Leno’s attorneys said Mavis “lacks the necessary capacity to execute the estate plan” because of her “severe neurocognitive impairment (including dementia).”

The legal papers added: ‘Jay is fully capable of continuing his support of Mavis’ physical and financial needs as he has done throughout their marriage.

“Jay wants to execute an estate plan, including a revocable trust and will, that will provide for Mavis and Mavis’ brother and her only living heir besides Jay.”
