Jacqui Lambie Network senator Tammy Tyrrell quits party over cryptic comment

Tasmanian Senator Tammy Tyrrell has resigned from the Jacqui Lambie Network, saying the party has lost confidence in her.

The 53-year-old says she will continue to represent the Tasmanian people in federal parliament as an independent member.

“It has become clear to me that I no longer have the confidence in the Jacqui Lambie Network to represent it in the Senate,” she said in a statement on Thursday.

“Although Jacqui didn’t kick me off the network, she suggested I go it alone.”

Senator Tyrrell said it was a difficult decision but she did not want to damage Senator Lambie and the party.

“With that in mind, the best thing I can do is step aside to help the Network shine,” she said.

‘I don’t want to stop them. I want Jacqui and the JLN to continue to succeed.

“I believe this is what is best for Jacqui, the network, myself, but most importantly, the people of Tasmania at this time.”

Ms Tyrrell was elected to the Senate for Tasmania in 2022 and served as the party Whip.
