Former Brexit Party MP candidate faces backlash for falsely claiming Japan BANNED mRNA Covid vaccines because they were behind ‘rising deaths’

A former Brexit Party candidate faced backlash today for falsely claiming Japan has banned Covid vaccines.

Jim Ferguson, who narrowly missed out on becoming an MP at the 2019 general election, said shots from the likes of Pfizer and Moderna were linked to “rising deaths”.

His post, which linked to an article about the false claim, was viewed millions of times.

Embarrassed MP Andrew Bridgen, who was kicked out of the Tory party for comparing the vaccine rollout to the Holocaust, shared a similar post citing Japan’s non-existent ban.

Japan has never banned mRNA Covid vaccines, although the claims have been circulating widely on social media among anti-vaxx groups who believe the jabs are behind a sudden surge in deaths in Britain and beyond.

Leading doctors, experts and charities have repeatedly stressed that the jabs are safe.

In the first year of their deployment alone, they saved 20 million lives and ended the series of Covid lockdowns that crippled economies and separated families.

However, lLike any other medical product, needle sticks have a range of side effects that vary in how common and serious they can be.

mRNA Covid jabs, such as those made by Pfizer and Moderna, have been linked to rare reports of myocarditis – a potentially dangerous inflammation of the heart.

The vast majority of cases were mild and resolved on their own.

Studies have also shown that the risk of myocarditis, which can also be caused by an infection such as Covid, was greater from the virus than from the jab.

Responding to the claims currently swirling on social media, Professor Jonathan Ball, a virologist at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, told MailOnline: ‘Some people are struggling with the truth.

‘A recent study from Japan showed that reports of the harmful effects of mRNA vaccines were in line with those reported by other countries.

‘Yes, they can occur, but they are rare and are more than outweighed by the beneficial effects, especially in vulnerable people.’

Dr. Doug Brown, CEO of the British Society for Immunology, said: ‘The safety and effectiveness assessments of all medicines and vaccines are based on a robust and comprehensive analysis of the evidence.

‘These assessments are carried out as standard for all vaccines and medicines licensed in Britain.

‘There is now a huge body of evidence from multiple studies showing that Covid vaccines, including the mRNA vaccines, are the safest and most effective way to prevent serious illness and deaths from Covid, and that the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks. in the vast majority of people.’

β€œLike many other countries in the world, Japan has been grappling with a crisis of skyrocketing sudden and unexpected deaths since 2021.

‘The issue has become so acute in Japan that the country is now experiencing a population decline as more citizens die than are born.

‘New studies in Japan have now linked rising deaths to Covid injections.’

X-readers also tore up Mr Ferguson’s post.

One responded with a link to a Japanese news website that reported how the country approved a different type of mRNA Covid vaccine in December.

Others suggested the post misinterpreted a change in Japan’s Covid vaccine rollout. From April, many Japanese residents are expected to have to pay for jabs.

The government, “like most people around the world, continues to recognize the benefit that the vaccines provide to vulnerable people,” Professor Ball also told MailOnline.

It is understood that blood clots caused by a rare side effect of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine have resulted in 81 fatalities and a higher number of injuries.

For context, more than 50 million doses of the AstraZeneca jab have been used in Britain. It is not an mRNA vaccine.
