J.D. Vance responds to Trump saying Kamala Harris ‘happened to turn black’

JD Vance called Donald Trump’s comments questioning Kamala Harris’ racial background “hysterical” and compared the vice president to a “chameleon.”

Trump’s running mate was on his campaign plane speaking to reporters when he defended the Republican candidate for running against a “hostile audience.”

It came just hours after Trump claimed Harris had “become a black person.”

“I just think it’s hysterical how overreacted the media is to this,” Vance said.

“The president doesn’t do scripted nonsense. He actually goes to hostile audiences, he answers tough questions, he resists them, but he actually answers them, and what a joy it is to have an American leader who is not afraid to go to hostile places and actually answer tough questions,” he added.

“So what he said, I thought it was hysterical. I think he was pointing out the fundamental chameleon-like nature of Kamala Harris.

“She’s a fake. And I think our whole campaign is going to have a lot of fun pointing that out. And it sounds like the president has thrown us out with ease.”

Democratic lawmakers are fiercely defending Vice President Kamala Harris as she takes on former President Donald Trump, despite her reputation as the “most liberal” senator.

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre led the response from President Joe Biden’s administration. Jean-Pierre, a Black woman, said Trump’s comment was “offensive.” She also said Harris deserves “respect” as vice president.

“No one has the right to tell someone who they are, how they identify themselves,” said Jean-Pierre.

Trump, in a confrontational, testy interview at the National Association of Black Journalists conference, repeatedly questioned Harris’ racial background. His remarks drew muffled gasps from the audience of black reporters and resistance from the journalists onstage who were questioning him.

Harris took the stage at the 60th International Biennial Boulé of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. in Houston and delivered a speech during an interview that took place just hours earlier in which Trump insisted that “she suddenly took a turn.”

He made the comments at a gathering of black journalists in Chicago, where an interviewer asked him whether he agreed with the Republican sentiment that his rival is a “DEI mercenary.”

When he asked the journalist to “define DEI,” he then questioned Harris’s race.

The vice president, in turn, said that “the American people deserve better,” in a speech in which he also urged the African-American student body to “fight” because “the stakes are so high.”

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Bin Attash and Mustafa al-Hawasawi have all agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy charges in exchange for life sentences.

The New York Times reported Wednesday night that the requests, which would allow the men to avoid a death penalty trial, had been approved by Pentagon officials.

“We are deeply troubled by these plea agreements. While we recognize the decision to avoid the death penalty, our primary concern remains access to these individuals for information,” said 9/11 Justice President Brett Eagleson.

“These settlement proposals must not lead to a system of closed-door agreements in which crucial information is withheld without the victims’ families having the opportunity to know the full truth.”
