ITV poach duo from the BBC to host this year’s Royal Variety Performance after 15 million tuned into their DIY show

ITV has roped in BBC TV duo Amanda Holden and Alan Carr to present this year’s Royal Variety Performance.

The duo became an instant hit with viewers of their DIY Italian programme on the channel.

The series was watched by 15 million people and has been renewed for a second season.

Amanda, 53, is already attached to the Royal Variety Performance through her role as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, and will now co-host with her mate Alan on Friday, November 22.

Comedian Alan presented the show three years ago and said he was delighted to be back at the Royal Albert Hall.

It’s going to be an exciting night for Amanda as her golden buzzer, Britain’s Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas, will perform

Amanda told the Mail: ‘It’s a real honour to be hosting the Royal Variety Performance this year. I’m still pinching myself! This is a dream job.

‘Alan is a true friend, we are bursting with ideas and excitement already, it’s going to be such a fun night! I’ve been working on Britain’s Got Talent for 18 years and am so proud to see all our winners perform in front of the Royal Family.

“This year will be no different, so in the words of Sydnie Christmas: let’s do it!”

Alan added that it was the ‘icing on the cake’ to co-present with Amanda.

He told The sun: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be asked to present the Royal Variety Performance again so soon — what a compliment. It was an honour three years ago and it is still an honour now.’

The TV duo had great success with the BBC show Amanda and Alan’s Italian Job.

In the program, the presenters bought two apartments in Sicily for one euro each and spent three months converting them into a beautiful holiday home.

Season one was watched by over 15 million people across the main TV channel and BBC iPlayer and was renewed for a second season.

It’s going to be an exciting evening for Amanda as her ‘golden buzzer’, Britain’s Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas, will be performing.

Sydnie, who impressed Britain’s Got Talent boss Simon Cowell with her stunning vocals, admits winning the series was a “miracle”.

After years of doubt, Sydnie finally received recognition for her artistry and also won the £250,000 prize. But a month after being crowned winner, she still hasn’t spent a penny.

Amanda has been a judge on Britain’s Got Talent for many years now, where the winner gets to perform during the show

Amanda and Alan have been friends for years, with the presenter wanting the comedian to replace David Walliams on BGT, but it went to Bruno Tonioli (pictured last year)

The singer, who also performs with her steady boyfriend Max, is looking ahead to the future and hopes to settle down, using the money as a solid foundation.

This week she told MailOnline: ‘I’m really disappointed but I haven’t touched a penny yet.

“I’m the queen of saving in the industry, you save some money, then you’re out of work and you’re not making the same money… I’m used to saving. But in a few years I also want my own place and some kids, I want to build a life and be stable.”

Alan revealed last year that he confronted Simon Cowell after he was passed over as a new judge on Britain’s Got Talent when David Walliams stepped down.

The comedian, who was approached for the role before it was given to Bruno Tonioli – unbeknownst to him – bumped into Simon just a week later at Amanda Holden’s home.

Comedian Alan told the Mail: ‘Amanda Holden said the following week: ‘Alan, I’m having a party,’ I said, ‘Great. I think it’s great.”

‘I go through the door and oh great, Simon’s there. Oh s***. So, as I always do, I went up there with my best humour and said, “My wrist’s been hurting all weekend from practising with that bloody buzzer and you went for Bruno”.’

The former Chatty Man presenter then imitated: ‘Alan, that’s show business.’
