Ipswich, Queensland: Tragedy as woman is found dead in Brisbane home after welfare check – as man is arrested

A man has been arrested following a dramatic arrest after his girlfriend was allegedly found stabbed to death in a Queensland home.

At approximately 9.15am on Monday morning, police were called to a home on Flinders Drive in Leichhardt, in Ipswich, south-west of Brisbane, to conduct a welfare check.

The body of a 28-year-old woman was found in the home, prompting an urgent search for her 36-year-old boyfriend. He reportedly drove away from the home earlier that morning in a white Toyota sedan.

A police helicopter and tire spikes were deployed to track down and arrest the man in his car for about an hour on Ipswich Boonah Road near Peak Crossing.

He was arrested at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation while the Toyota is towed away for forensic examination.

Queensland Police have announced they are searching for a knife in connection with the alleged trespassing at Wyaralong Dam, about 50km south.

Police said at a news conference Monday that they were called to the woman’s home after receiving a report from a family member that there were concerns for her welfare.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and found the woman with multiple stab wounds, police said.

A crime scene has been established at the house on the corner of Flinders Drive and Torres Street.

The streets surrounding the crime scene are closed to the public.

Around noon, police and forensic investigators were spotted searching the house.

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said he heard a couple arguing on Sunday evening.

“I heard screaming and shouting coming from the house… it’s been happening for a few days,” the neighbour told the Courier Mail.

“I woke up this morning and saw the police outside. I can’t believe something like this could happen.”

They said the residents had only moved into the house about six months ago.

More to come.
