Instant karma! Moment angry cyclist flies head-first over handlebars while trying to ‘intimidate’ DPD driver who called him out for riding on pavement

A furious Aldi bike worker received ‘instant karma’ when he tried to ‘intimidate’ a DPD courier in a row over who was allowed on the pavement – flying headfirst onto his handlebars.

Heidi Cooper’s delivery driver pulled onto the pavement and parked on double yellow lines to make a quick exit outside her home in Bradford, Yorkshire, on Wednesday.

But the 29-year-old’s shocking CCTV footage of the diner shows the moment an angry cyclist, wearing an Aldi hi-vis vest, asked the footman to ‘get in’ so he could get between him and the van .

The mum-of-two says the cyclist then muttered ‘you shouldn’t park on the pavement’ – so the DPD driver mockingly replies ‘you shouldn’t walk on the footpath either n*bhead’.

As the driver adds ‘it’s illegal, you d**k’, the Aldi worker can be seen turning his bike around and going ‘full speed’ towards the courier in what appears to be an attempt to ‘scare’ him off .

After being reprimanded for the bicycle on the sidewalk, Aldiu returns at high speed

The cyclist then slams on the brakes, flies over the handlebars and crashes into Heidi Cooper’s boundary wall

He is seen yelling at the DPD driver that he should not park on the sidewalk

He slams on the brakes just feet from Heidi and flies over the wheel, slamming his shoulder into the homeowner’s boundary wall and landing at the couples feet.

Heidi yells ‘what are you doing?’ as he stumbles to his feet and goes face to face with his rival shouting “I have more right to the king than you.”

The diner lady says she thought the exchange was going to turn into a fight and was too shocked to laugh.

Since showing the clips to her partner of 26 years, Nyall Hughes, she thought it was hilarious and even posted it on TikTok that night.

She doesn’t blame the DPD driver for the incident, despite the fact that he was parked on the double-yellow lines for about five minutes while they replaced the old TV box with a new one.

The bewildered mum says the cyclist’s fall ‘serves him up’ for being so scary.

Heidi, from Barnsley, Yorkshire, said: “I just stood there thinking ‘I don’t want to be involved in this’.

“It’s a main road and there was nowhere for him to park really, so he stopped on the road to try and be quick.

“When the cyclist muttered something about not parking on the pavement, it all escalated from there.

“I thought the man was going to leave, but when he came back I was worried there was going to be a fight.

The cyclist can be seen on camera approaching the property while cycling on the pavement

The cyclist is seen going head over heels before staggering to his feet and telling his rival that he has more ‘rights’ than him.

“He was really coming back at a speed. He really wanted to scare him and I think his plan was to stop very suddenly in front of him. He must have hit the wrong brake.

“I didn’t even laugh at that time. I was in absolute shock because I didn’t expect him to go over the wheel and go straight into the wall.

“This serves the purpose of trying to intimidate the delivery driver. Good for staying calm.

“I closed the gate to put some kind of barrier between me and the madman on the bike. I remained in the middle of it. I was on my way to pick up my youngest from daycare so I didn’t have time for it.

“I blame the cyclist and I don’t think the driver did anything wrong, but I can understand why people think he shouldn’t have stopped there.

“I was in complete shock. It’s definitely the most dramatic delivery I’ve ever had.

“People have said it’s funny, but I didn’t think it was funny until I showed it to my partner. I had to find him on camera because I knew he wouldn’t believe me.’

Heidi lives with Arthur, two, Jack, seven, and partner Nyall Hughes, 26, but she was the only person at home during the incident.

She says her 30mph route is currently busier than usual as a nearby A-road is closed, but delivery drivers regularly stop on the road despite the two yellows.

Opinions are divided as to whether the driver or the cyclist was to blame for the strange collision.

One supported the cyclist, saying: ‘The DPD driver clearly thinks he shouldn’t be following the law. They are not allowed to park there. That’s why it’s a double yellow line.’

Although another added: ‘No fool should be on the pavement either. I bet he lost a brain cell with that and is in the single digits now.’

A second asked: ‘Why is a grown man cycling on the street hahah?’

Aldi, DPD and South Yorkshire Police have been contacted for comment.
