Not much at all, according to an American scientist. In a recently surfaced video from 2012, theoretical physicist Sean Carroll gave a lecture on the matter.
The academic — an outside professor at the Santa Fe Institute and Homewood professor of natural philosophy at Johns Hopkins University — said “the laws of physics that underlie everyday life are fully understood.”
Because of this, once we no longer exist as physical beings, there is no material understanding of how we could continue to live in our world.

“That’s because there are no particles and forces that can hold the information in your brain after you die,” he told an audience at The Amazing Meeting (TAM) 2012 in Nevada.
“There is no way that the knowledge of who you are before you died will persist after the chemical reaction that defines your life has come to an end.
“And I’m actually talking about an extra material mind here that would somehow be you even after your body ceased to exist—which is not compatible with the laws of physics as we know it.”

Carroll added that there’s no need to study this more deeply, as it’s inherently incompatible with our theory of how life happens on a physical level.
“We don’t have to look carefully at past life regression studies or anything like that,” he continued.
“The claim violates the laws of physics.”
He explained further, saying, “What you are is a collection of atoms obeying the laws of nature: “You are not a physical flesh bag driven around by a little blob of spiritual energy, like a soccer mom driving an SUV. .
‘There are electrons, protons and neutrons that interact through electromagnetism, nuclear force and gravity.
“So the laws of physics tell us what those things do — no need to bring anything else into the equation.”
In his speech, Carroll emphasized that this does not detract from human efforts to live “good, fulfilling and meaningful lives” — but that the answers we seek “must be compatible with how reality works on a fundamental level.” .
In addition, he added that there are different ways of talking about the world — and they don’t all have to be purely descriptive in a physical context.
“When you meet someone for the first time, when you go on a first date and your date says, ‘Tell me about yourself,’ you don’t mention the positions and velocities of all the electrons, protons and neutrons in your body.”
