Moscow’s police chief said he believed the murder suspect acted alone despite the alleged killer asking officers if they had arrested anyone else.
Bryan Kohberger, 28, a criminology student at Washington State University, was arrested Friday in Pennsylvania, more than 2,000 miles from where four college students were murdered in their beds.
Victims Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Maddie Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, were murdered on November 13.
After he was arrested, Kohberger asked the police if anyone else had been arrested for the murder.
However, Moscow chief James Fry said he believes “we have the individual who committed these crimes.”
Although Fry could not comment on whether or not Kohberger had ‘targeted’ the group of students, who did not live far from him, or whether the killings were ‘premediated’.
The Moscow Police Department continues to encourage anyone to come forward as they are ‘still piecing together’.
“We are still collecting information,” he told Fox News. ‘That’s why we’ve still been asking people, you know, to send us advice on the individual, to send us whatever information you have because all of that will be part of that picture. Even so, it will give us even more information.
Since yesterday’s 4:00 pm press conference, Fry revealed that the department has received more than 400 tips on the case.
Fry was unable to reveal much about the case, as Idaho state law prohibits officers from releasing information until the criminology student has first appeared in court in Idaho.
However, he said it was “disappointing” to learn that the alleged killer was studying criminology, as this is “not something we want in our profession.”
“We hold ourselves to a higher standard, we hold ourselves to an ethical standard,” he told Fox News. ‘But we can’t pick and choose what people study.’
Kohberger agreed to be extradited to Idaho from Pennsylvania. His lawyer said he is shocked by the arrest and plans to deny the killings.
‘Mr. Kohberger is eager to be cleared of these charges and looks forward to resolving these matters as soon as possible,’ said Monroe County Chief Public Defender Jason LaBar. CNN.
He added that the suspect will agree to forego his extradition hearing, which was scheduled for Tuesday, to be sent to Idaho.
Although initially placed on suicide watch after being held without bail, Kohberger is now out of surveillance as he prepares to plead his innocence.
This is a developing story, please check back for updates.
