Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson takes a stab at ‘creaky’ Australian Idol reboot after being rejected by the judging panel, as he joins I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
It was previously reported that he felt slighted after being cut from the judging panel of Channel Seven’s Australian Idol reboot.
And Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, 60, took a brutal stab at a singing competition as he prepares to join a different kind of reality show, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!, this week.
The English-born music executive, who was on the original Idol judging panel from 2003 to 2004, said News.com.au on Sunday that the recently finished reboot failed to recreate the essence of what made the original show so successful.
‘It felt a bit creaky. The production values felt really low and the vocals didn’t inspire me. They should hold the contestants to a high level and I don’t think they did,” she said.
Dicko added that, after not starring in reality shows since his stint on Australia’s Got Talent in 2016, it was the “honesty” of I’m A Celebrity that convinced him to sign up.

Ian appeared as a judge on the first series of Australian Idol in 2003 along with judges Marcia Hines (centre) and Mark Holden (right).
You really are in the camp. You really are covered in nasty bugs. And you really have to get along with some unknown fish lip influencer who might give you shit,” she said.
Dicko was a judge on Australian Idol from 2003 to 2004 alongside Mark Holden and Marcia Hines, before defecting to join rival Channel Seven from 2005 to 2006.
He then went on to host Seven’s Australian Celebrity Survivor and the second season of My Kitchen Rules, as well as appear on Dancing with the Stars.
‘It felt a bit creaky. The production values felt really low and the vocals didn’t inspire me. They should keep the contestants at a high level and I don’t think they did,” Dicko said. (Pictured Australian Idol reboot judge Kyle Sandilands)
He then returned to the Australian Idol judging panel in 2007, with the addition of Kyle Sandilands to the panel, until the show’s cancellation in 2009.
Idol got a reboot this year, with Kyle Sandilands, Amy Shark, Meghan Trainor, and Harry Connick Jr. on the panel.
Dickson will appear on Channel 10’s I’m A Celebrity alongside MAFS girlfriend Domenica Calarco, 60, veteran actress Debra Lawrance, 66, and many other stars.
