Rafael Nadal has confirmed he will miss this month’s US Open and will play in the Laver Cup in September.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion hinted after his elimination from the Olympics that he would skip the last major tournament of the year in Flushing Meadows.
Nadal has won the US Open four times, but has only played once since his 2019 triumph. He has struggled with injuries in recent years, fueling ongoing debate about when he will retire.
“Hello everyone, I am writing to you today to let you know that I have decided not to participate in the US Open this year, a place where I have great memories,” Nadal wrote on his official X page.
“I will miss those electric and special late night sessions in New York with Ashe, but I don’t think I can give 100% this time.
“Thanks to all my American fans in particular, I will miss you all and see you another time. Good luck to all for the always great US Open!
“My next event is the Laver Cup in Berlin.”
