I got the “ick” from a guy who left me to pay the bill on our fourth date
- An Australian woman has sparked a debate after saying she had the ‘ick’ on a date
- On her fourth date with the man, he made her pay a $40 restaurant bill
- After telling the story to her TikTok followers, users agreed it was a ‘red flag’
It was the perfect meal, the polite chatter flowing smoothly into more daring conversation, your eyes fixed on his, he kept staring at you…until the bill came.
When it comes to dating, that awkward moment when the waiter arrives with the credit card reader may tell you more about the other person than any amount of charm and humor can precede.
Do you split it? Offer to pay? Damn, shouldn’t he pay?
A TikToker has sparked a heated argument online after admitting she got the ‘ick’ from her date who didn’t pay his half of the bill
A TikTok influencer has sparked a heated debate after admitting she gets the “ick” when her date doesn’t pay his cut.
Ashleigh Nekeman, from Brisbane, has added to the ongoing dating discussion on the app about dating etiquette.
Taking into account her @ashleighnekeman account, she recalled a recent date about a man she met on Hinge, who left her disappointed when he made her pay the bill.
In the video, the disgruntled 29-year-old told her followers that this was her fourth date with the man and she suggested they go for massages and then they both decided to get some sushi.
She talked about the meeting and said, “So we’re having lunch and I’m still trying to figure out if I really like this guy or what’s going on.”
‘Then it comes down to paying for our meal and the lady asks us ‘how do you want to pay?’ and he says straight up let’s split it and I was just kind of like… okay.”
She explained that the total of the bill was $40 and that on their other dates they had both paid.
Nevertheless, they told the server they would pay their half, only to find she struggled to split it.
She continued: “She struggled with the bill and I just say to her ‘if it’s easier we can pay together and she’s happy to say yes.”
“And I look at him and he’s not looking and he’s not offering to pay, so I thought okay, I’ll pay for it.”
The disgruntled 29-year-old was delayed for her date and refused to even kiss him, making an excuse after he leaned in
Ashleigh explained that she was even more put off when her date didn’t ask her for her bank details to transfer the money afterwards.
“So I’ve got the ick now and he walks me to my car and goes in for a kiss and I make an excuse and make an excuse like ‘Oh sorry I just ate sushi I’m not going to kiss you’, she added.
Finally, she wrapped up the video by asking her followers, “Am I just asking too much for someone to pay for food when we’re on a date?”
The video has caused quite a stir, with many disagreeing with Ashleigh in the comments.
One person got over 112,000 views and hundreds of comments and wrote, “So you’re broke, just say so and move on to another man who will pay for your food you eat.”
While others, more sympathetic to Ashleigh’s cause, said, “The ick is valid.”
Another agreed: “Runnnnnn baby! A real man will provide anyway. If he can’t even buy you a plate of food, he’s a waste of energy.”
Another user wrote, ‘That he wants to split the bill isn’t necessarily a red flag. But he won’t pay you back.’
