I found fame on 90s hit Fun House and now I pull pints in Wetherspoons – and it’s the perfect job for me

Fun House star Melanie Grant has made a career change and is now pouring pints at her local Wetherspoons.

The former TV star, 52, and her twin sister Martina enjoyed overnight success after launching Fun House in 1989, which pitted two teams against each other in a series of notoriously messy challenges to win a prize .

The show, a syndication of the hugely popular American series of the same name, disappeared after a ten-year run in 1999, but returned for a one-off Fun House event in 2015.

Since then, Melanie has largely left showbusiness and now works at Wetherspoons in her home town of Ramsgate, Kent.

Melanie, who says she is still often recognized by punters who have seen her on Fun House, believes the job is a perfect fit for her.

Speak with The sunshe said: ‘Since the end of Fun House, Martina and I have not been on TV regularly.

‘We still get a few showbiz jobs here and there, but it’s not my full-time job anymore and I needed something to pay the bills.

‘I’ve always been a people person and I enjoy working with the public, so when the job at Wetherspoons came up I thought it sounded perfect.’

However, Melanie would love the chance to return to TV at some point and says she would jump at the chance to appear on Strictly Come Dancing or I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here !

Martina, who is now mother to 11-year-old Stanley – who has Down syndrome – and eight-year-old Mabel with husband Ben Freebury, previously told MailOnline: ‘We still get recognized on the street occasionally.

‘My partner is seven years younger than me and he used to watch Fun House. He thinks it’s a bit strange that he used to watch me on TV and now we have children together.’

She added: ‘My mother-in-law Dolly takes care of the children, and so does my own mother. I’m lucky that this job doesn’t take me away from them for very long.”

The show consisted of ‘messy games’ with grunge and a ‘fun kart’ Grand Prix in which teams of children competed against each other.

Martina said: ‘All three of us would love to do a new show. There are a lot of health and safety issues we have to deal with with the kids and the gunk, but it can be done.”

When Fun House ended in December 1999, the sisters released an album called ATT (A Twin Thing), which was successful in Japan.

They have also made a handful of TV appearances, including stints on The Bill, Soccer AM and This Morning.
