- A young woman was given cash to pay for dinner and ate two slices of pizza
- She assumed things would be fine since she was taking care of the kids one evening
- But this did not go down well with the parents
A babysitter was left feeling ‘uncomfortable and confused’ after being scolded by parents for ‘eating the children’s food’.
A 20-year-old woman was given cash to pay for a cheese pizza and breadsticks for the entire family while caring for two boys, ages seven and 10.
The sitter said she has “always been under the impression that the sitter should be allowed to consume a reasonable amount of food if expected to serve dinner.”
With this in mind, she decided to eat just two slices of pizza and one breadstick. But this did not go down well with the parents.

On Reddit the woman said she has babysat for the couple a few times and has never had any problems.
‘When the parents came home to relieve me, they asked how the evening went. I said fine, and said the pizzeria was really good, since I had never ordered from there before. My mother looked at me in surprise and asked why I was eating in front of the kids,” she wrote.
The nanny believes she did not eat “inappropriately,” but the parents disagreed.
“Dad said they didn’t expect to have to feed me too, and told me not to eat their family’s food,” she continued.
‘Overall, I feel very uncomfortable and confused by this experience. Both boys were fed and didn’t complain about being hungry for the rest of the night.
“Personally, I have always assumed, perhaps wrongly, that if I am expected to serve dinner as a nanny, then I am welcome to get a helping too. Is this something that anyone else has experienced?’
The woman had to wonder whether she was wrong or not and asked others for their advice.
More than 5,300 people took part in the conversation, with the majority agreeing that the parents were wrong.
“Take them off your list, they are cheap and unreasonable,” one person wrote.
“Never babysit them again unless they agree to feed you,” another added.
“There was pizza left and they didn’t like you eating two slices?!” said a third.
Someone else wrote: ‘Didn’t they expect you to eat or order a whole pizza for yourself?’
