Major automaker is recalling more than 13,000 vehicles over defects that could cause catastrophic engine fires

More than 13,000 Hyundai cars have been recalled due to a potentially catastrophic engine failure that could cause the vehicle to catch fire.
A recall notice was issued on Thursday for two Hyundai models – Veloster (FS) and Tucson (TL) (variants: FS 1.6GDI, TL 2.0MI) – made between 2014 and 2017.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, the engine’s connecting rod bearing “could cause premature engine damage” due to a “manufacturing defect.”
If this happens, engine oil can leak in the presence of an ignition source, resulting in a vehicle fire.

Hyundai Tucson (TL) (variants: FS 1.6GDI, TL 2.0MI) made between 2014 and 2017 were also part of the recall
“A vehicle fire can increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property,” the department said.
More than 13,000 cars have been affected by the outage, according to the report.
The department warned drivers to be on the lookout for unusual sounds coming from the engine, the appearance of smoke or if a vehicle’s instrument panel displays an engine warning light.
If any of these situations occur, drivers are urged to ‘stop the vehicle in a safe place, switch off the ignition, leave the vehicle and immediately contact the nearest Hyundai dealer’.
“Owners of affected vehicles can contact their preferred authorized Hyundai dealer to get the work done as soon as possible free of charge,” the department said.
