Hundreds of nude cyclists ride around the streets of Bristol for World Naked Bike Ride

At least some of them wore helmets! Hundreds of naked cyclists take to the streets of Bristol for World Naked Bike Ride – but critics demand an end to the controversial event

  • Annual event designed to raise awareness of safer cycling and body positivity
  • Critics took to social media asking for it to be ‘stopped’ or calling the event ‘disgusting’

Hundreds of naked cyclists took to the streets of Bristol today to expose everything in support of the World Naked Bike Ride – but were met with backlash from critics demanding an end to the controversial event.

The event is billed as a celebration of bikes and bodies, highlighting cyclists’ vulnerability on busy roads and in a demonstration against car culture and oil dependency.

The cyclists departed from the Full Moon and Attic Bar at 12.30pm, from where they headed down the A38 towards Cabot Circus.

They ended their journey in the harbor opposite the SS Great Britain, before returning to the pub where they started.

But not everyone is happy about seeing the naked riders in public, with locals criticizing the event on social media and asking officials to end the “disgusting” event.

Another noted that police helped keep the naked bike ride safe, saying ‘Bristol is broken’.

One user tweeted, “I disagree with this bike ride. #bristol #perverts.’

The same user posted a video of the naked bike ride saying, “Bristol is crazy, they all set their sights.”

Many agreed, saying the cyclists were “perverts” or “trimmers.”

Another user said the participants were “total attention desperados,” while yet another user said you should “lock them all up.”

What is the World Naked Bike Ride?

The World Naked Bike Ride has been held every year since 2004, with the exception of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and has been called the “largest naked protest in the world” by organizers.

The annual event was initially designed to campaign for environmental sustainability and improved safety for cyclists in busy cities.

But it has since transformed to promote a variety of causes, including body positivity, inclusivity, and personal freedom.

Naked cyclists take to the streets of more than 200 cities around the world to celebrate the event, including London, Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Vienna, Sao Paulo, Vancouver, Copenhagen, Paris, Thessaloniki, Tel Aviv and Tokyo.
