McLeod’s Daughters and Baywatch star who was once engaged to Jason Momoa is now living as a recluse in a caravan with her teenage son and is suffering hair loss after going broke

Former actress Simmone Jade Mackinnon has spoken of tough times after rising to fame in the early 2000s.

Known for her pin-up girl looks, Mackinnon began her career in the American series Baywatch: Hawaii, which aired from 1999 to 2001, and then returned home for her starring role as Stevie Hall in the hit drama McLeod’s Daughters. 2003 to 2009.

But her decade-long appearance on television did not qualify Mackinnon for life.

After McLeod’s Daughters ended, she left the industry and found herself under financial stress, which took such a toll on her that she suffered from panic attacks and hair loss.

Today, the 2007 Gold Logie nominee – who was once engaged to Hollywood star Jason Momoa – lives in a caravan with her 13-year-old son after stepping out of the spotlight and declaring bankruptcy.

She talked about her heartbreaking situation Nine’s reality show The topwhere she competes for a chance to win a life-changing cash prize of $1 million.

β€œThe last three years have been the hardest of my life,” Mackinnon said.

‘And that caused great fear. After a week of consecutive panic attacks that led to massive hair loss.

‘Large chunks fell out, so I had to shave it all off. You lose your hair and it’s a huge psychological blow.

‘I just hid. I hid from everything and everyone for years.’

Simmone took an extended career break after McLeod’s Daughters was dropped in 2009. the advertiser she told her agents that she wanted to focus on raising her son, who she realized “would most likely be my only child.”

Years later, in 2016, she bought a caravan with the intention of traveling around the countryside.

But her road trip dreams never came true and that trailer was parked on the family property for two years when her father became ill.

In a strange case of life imitating art, the ex-actress later took a job at a cattle station in Rockhampton, Queensland, as a jillaroo.

She said this period of her life was blissfully happy and described the lifestyle as ‘priceless’, even though the money was just enough to break even.

However, Mackinnon suffered another setback when the Covid pandemic struck.

She hit rock bottom while trying to keep her online clothing business afloat.

‘I put everything I had into it. “I’m proud that three years later it’s still that way, but it’s without a doubt the most stressful situation I’ve ever been in,” she said.

‘Living off credit cards, constantly praying that people will like my new designs. It has taken a huge toll mentally and early last year I also suffered a physical toll when I lost all my hair due to the stress.

‘The bottom is where I found myself. And from there you can really only go one way… and that’s up.’

After Baywatch, Mackinnon returned to Australia after being cast in Channel Nine’s long-running drama McLeod’s Daughters (2003–2009).

She is now back on Nine, albeit in a non-acting role, as a contestant on reality series The Summit, where she is in the running for $1 million..

In the action-adventure series, hosted by actor Jai Courtney and filmed on location in New Zealand, fourteen participants race to the top of a mountain.

Each participant must carry a backpack filled with $70,000 in cash, and if anyone leaves the competition, their money will be deducted from the total prize money.
