How to check if your new shoes are comfortable without trying them on: Shopper wows with ‘genius’ test

A shopper has revealed a little-known trick to help determine whether shoes are comfortable or not before trying them on.

Asia Marquis, from the US, found a pair of second-hand leather boots for $48 USD ($70 AUD) at a local thrift store.

Her grandmother once taught her a clever “rock test,” in which she lightly tapped the side of the shoe to see if it “wobbled.”

If it moves, it means it is not stable and difficult to walk around in.

Asia Marquis, from the US, found a pair of second-hand leather boots for $48 USD ($70 AUD) at a local thrift store. Her grandmother once told her about a clever “brick test” to help determine whether shoes are comfortable or not before trying them on

“One thing my grandmother taught me about shoe shopping is to make sure you do the 'shoe stone test,'” she explained in a TikTok video.

'I recently came across authentic leather Harley-Davidson boots. But when I did the shoe stone test, I noticed that these boots were not stable at all.

“My grandmother always said, 'If it wobbles off your foot, it's going to wobble on your foot.'

When Asia tried on the shoes, she quickly noticed that one boot began to lean to one side and feel “wobbly” when she walked.

“You'll notice the boot rocking unintentionally,” she said,

'Shoes that are made properly won't wobble like that when you put them on – and if they do, don't buy them.

'So make sure you do the shoe stone test next time. If they lean, they will swing, so leave them behind.”

The rule also applies to brand new boots and heels.

In a follow-up video, Asia tested other shoes she owns, including two pairs of heels.

She gently tapped the side of one pair, which barely moved, while another immediately wobbled.

Thousands were impressed by the trick and thanked Asia for passing on her grandmother's wisdom.

'Omg, your grandma is a gem! This is valuable information, wow!' one commented.

'This is some of the best information I have ever seen. I'm going to use the shoe stone test from now on,” said another.

'I never knew this and it explains why I find some boots destroy my ankles. your grandmother is a gem!' a third wrote.

Someone else said: 'This makes so much sense! I just tested some shoes I already have that I know are less stable on all rocks.”
