How Manhattan stabbing victim used her last breath to name her ‘killer’ – and the answer sent shivers through her family

A New York City woman used her dying breath to reveal the name of the person she believes stabbed her.

Shirley Rodriguez, 29, was waiting for an Uber to take her to work Monday morning when she was attacked outside her family’s apartment on Haven Avenue near West 172nd Street.

While she was being stabbed, she called the building buzzer and was able to contact her family for help.

Her father, Henry Rodriguez, ran downstairs and could hear his daughter’s last words, reported PIX11.

“She fought back all the time. As she is dying, she tells him [Henry]“Ty did this,” said Joseph Kenny, chief of detectives for the NYPD.

Shirley was referring to her ex-boyfriend, Tyquane Jemmott, 33, who she had broken up with the week before after two years of dating.

Police said Jemmott allegedly waited between two cars outside the apartment until she left for work before attacking her.

Shirley was stabbed multiple times in the front and back of the body, neck, arm and face.

The brutal attack, which was captured on video, lasted a minute and Shirley was cut up, beaten and dragged, leaving a trail of blood along the building and parked car.

Shirley’s sister, Tibby, said she wasn’t surprised to hear her sister say it was Jemmott and that the couple’s relationship was rocky.

‘She shouted for help. She said, ‘Daddy, daddy, hurry up. Come down,” Henry said The New York Daily News.

“So I threw something on it and went down with a kitchen knife because obviously something was going on. I ran down the stairs and it was just a bloody scene. And my daughter was standing there with a big cut on her face.”

‘My instinct was to chase him, but I couldn’t leave her alone. She was bleeding. He was gone. Someone else was chasing him,” he said.

Jemmott was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the fatal stabbing.

“He wouldn’t give her space and he didn’t respect the boundaries she set,” Tibby said.

“One of her last straws was when she posted a baby photo on her Instagram story and he accused her of having a new follower. And she got tired of it and blocked him. Then he started texting her. He would keep track.”
