Horror buggy crash leaves Queensland woman critical as two others die in deadly start to holiday long weekend

A woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a horror buggy in Queensland's Central Highlands.

Emergency services were called to a buggy accident involving two people in Duargina, west of Rockhampton, at around 1.35pm on Friday.

The woman, in her 40s, was treated at the Apis Creek Rd location for head and leg injuries before being flown to hospital in a critical condition.

The second person, a teenage boy, was also treated at the scene for head injuries before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Elsewhere in Queensland, an 18-year-old man died after his vehicle rolled off the Bruce Highway and crashed near Ambrose, about 30km from Gladstone, on Friday evening.

The driver, from Toolooa, died at the scene after the car left the road near Gentle Annie Road about 6.30pm.

Two passengers – a 17-year-old man from Toolooa and a 19-year-old man from South Gladstone – suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were assessed at Gladstone Hospital.

Early on Saturday morning, a 27-year-old man from the northwest Brisbane suburb of Ashgrove died after his motorcycle crashed into a pole.

Police said the rider was riding along Waterworks Road shortly after midnight when his bike left the road and struck a pole.

He suffered serious injuries and died on the spot.
