A friend of rapper Cardi B and a beloved hairdresser and salsa dancer were killed when an SUV collided with another vehicle and then slammed into them on a Manhattan sidewalk.
A community in the Inwood section of Manhattan is mourning the loss of Joel Adames, 31, and David Fernandez, 40, with Cardi B leading the tributes memorializing Adames in a social media post hours after the deadly Wednesday morning crash.
Earlier that evening, Fernandez had cut his friend Adames’ hair, and the pair had gone for a drink before walking home around 4am, a witness told PIX11 News.
A BMW was heading north on Sherman Avenue when it collided with a Subaru Forester SUV headed in the opposite direction at the West 207th Street intersection, police said. The impact launched the SUV onto the sidewalk, where it slammed into the two men.
Five other people were injured in the crash, including three with serious injuries.
An investigation is underway.

Cardi B posted to social media about her friend Adames on Wednesday.
‘Stupidness, negligence, I hope the worst to who committed this!’ the singer wrote. ‘Took someone sooo loved, full of life and just all around amazing leaving people destroy.. RIP JOEL.’
‘They were just standing there, and the cars [were] just jumping the sidewalk,’ a woman who said that she was Adames’ cousin told PIX11 News.
Police say the BMW apparently ran a red light on Sherman Avenue and t-boned the Subaru, which is also what surveillance camera footage shows, they said.
The impact launched the Subaru onto the sidewalk, slamming into Fernandez and Adames, who were waiting to cross the street.
Dramatic photos from the scene show the two men lying unconscious on the sidewalk as their blood spills onto the street. The SUV and BMW were heavily damaged in the collision.
Family and friends shared good memories with local media about the two men as they gathered at a growing memorial at the scene of the crash.

Adames’ family said he was getting his hair cut early by David Fernandez to look fresh for his daughter’s birthday celebration later in the day.
‘He was just an amazing person,’ said Jolemy Clasé, a lifelong friend of Fernandez, told PIX11. ‘The community loved him.’
Fernandez, a beloved barber, would cut and style the hair of anyone who’d ask – at any time. He even had celebrity clients like DJ Baby Face and guitarist Max Santos.
‘You call him at 2am, he’d stay open just for you,’ Gomez said. ‘That’s literally what happen[ed].’
Fernandez was also known by a different name: ‘David the Dancer.’
He was a salsa instructor, and winner of many international salsa competitions, friends told local media.

Sherman Avenue has a track record of deadly traffic-related deaths, New York Post reported, with four traffic deaths in the last decade, far more than any other street in the neighborhood, NYPD crash data show.
Drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene on Wednesday and and investigation into the crash is ongoing.
