Home and Away star Matt Evans gets caught in a rip while surfing in Bronte and is rushed to hospital following the ordeal: ‘Be safe out there’

Home and Away star Matt Evans got into a rip while surfing at Bronte Beach on Sunday and suffered a horror injury to his hand.

The 27-year-old soap star was rushed to hospital after being ‘smashed into the rocks’ as he came off his board while trying to catch a large wave.

Despite the bloody injury, he looked great as the singer shared several photos of the ordeal on his Instagram Stories.

The first showed him moments after he was rescued, with a big grin as he showed off several bleeding scrapes and cuts.

β€œThe sea was angry that day my friend,” read the caption written by Matt’s friend singer-songwriter Jaime Robbie Reyne.

Another photo from the shocking event revealed Bondi Rescue’s Anthony ‘Harries’ Caroll was the one who saved Matt, as the pair took a happy selfie together.

Matt also shared footage of himself taking Jaime to the emergency room at Sydney’s Prince of Wales Hospital to have his wounds treated.

Hours later, Matt took to Instagram again to share a video with his followers explaining what happened to him.

“It’s all smiles in these stories, but…I just got into a crack at Bronte with a huge set,” he explained, showing off the scabs covering his healing hand.

‘He turned out to be a very lucky guy because it could have been much, much worse. I was thrown against the rocks and was very lucky.

Matt joined Home and Away in late 2021 – despite having no previous acting experience – after appearing on The Voice in 2020.

Matt told The Daily Telegraph about his new acting role that he learned ‘on the job’.

β€œI went in there with a clean slate and I learn so much every day,” he said.

‘On my first day in the studio I went a little crazy because there were just a lot of people around and I didn’t know what I was doing. I just try to learn on the job.”
