Hilary Duff reveals how she maintains her 26in waistline during the holidays when food is everywhere

Hilary Duff likes to stay in top shape all year round.

But things become a challenge for her over the holidays when the 36-year-old Lizzie McGuire actress has to manage three children at home.

“We have so much going on with school events, birthdays and other things. Our fall is very busy,” Hilary said Women’s health this week.

“And we always host Thanksgiving and Christmas at our house,” added the 6-foot-4 star who has a 24-inch waist,

The star told the site that she works out early in the morning to make sure it gets done.

“You feel like you’ve been eating and drinking all day, so it’s nice to get it out of the way and just know that you’ve done it,” she explains.

‘All the places where I exercise are open in the morning for one lesson during the holidays.’

Hilary’s best workout classes are the Tracy Anderson Method, and Silver Springs, which offers pilates in a hot studio.

The star likes to “sweat a little more” and is concerned with “removing toxins.”

‘There is nothing better than the road [that workout] makes your skin feel,” Hilary said.

‘You feel like you’ve lost everything you wanted to get rid of, and then your skin just feels so nice. I really like that feeling.’

She also keeps family time active.

When Hilary’s kids (Luca, 11, Banks, 5, and Mae, 2) get home from school, they swim or jump on the trampoline.

The Never Let You Go singer asks husband Matthew Koma for some quality couple time.

‘Every Sunday I play tennis. My husband and I have that together, which is a lot of fun.

“About two years ago I told him, ‘Here’s the deal: We need sports so that we still like each other when the kids leave the house,'” she said.

“So now we’re skiing, which is obviously seasonal. And we play tennis together, which is a lot of fun.’ (The couple that sweats together, stays together!)

She prefers strength training.

‘As a woman, lifting weights is very important. It is important for your bones. It is important that we are constantly on our mobile phones and paying attention to our posture,” she says. “…I don’t talk like crazy heavy weights. You know, I’m not a bodybuilder. But it’s fun to lift weights.” Additionally, she points out that strength training helps women’s bodies stay strong as they age.

Sometimes that also means incorporating weights into her cardio workout (also called rucking). “I did that 12-3-30 workout [on my treadmill], but it became very easy for me,” she says. “So then I started wearing a 12-pound weighted vest, and it got hard again. But I like it.’
