Cincinnati’s infamous sail monster claimed another victim as the Reds took on the Dodgers in rainy conditions at Great American Ballpark on Sunday.
During a weather delay, the grounds crew brought out a huge white tarp to protect the field from incoming rain.
As the staff members ran across the field, dragging the large tarp behind them, a woman fell over and was promptly swallowed by the enormous creature.
“Mayday – they’re not stopping,” the Reds announcer said as the crew continued to pull the tarp toward the third base line, completely enveloping their colleague.
“Good news, bad news,” he continued. ‘Good news: the Reds are four ahead. Bad news, Tarp Monster did get hold of a member of the grounds crew.’

The announcer noted that the woman trapped underneath was “trying to crawl to freedom with the army.”
“That’s one of the biggest cheers of the day,” they said, as she emerged from the tarp.
Social media users found the moment as hilarious as it was poignant.
“I can’t breathe when I see this,” one person wrote in response the message from the MLB on X.
“That can be quite scary there, to be honest,” said another.
A third wrote: ‘That’s amazing, hilarious and also terrifying.’

It was far from the first time the sail monster has swallowed a member of the Reds grounds crew.
Last summer, a man slipped while rolling out the tarp as the Ohio team took on the San Francisco Giants.
“Every man left behind, take care of yourself,” the announcer said at the time.
The Reds led 4-0 before the rain delay in the top of the sixth inning on Sunday.
They completed a three-game sweep of Los Angeles with a 4-1 win, as Jonathan India and Nick Martini drove in two points each in the win.
“It shows what we can do when we play well,” Reds manager David Bell told reporters.
‘We know that about ourselves. We believe that we absolutely must show this. It’s nice to see our team and our players just fighting to change the energy.”
