Harris’ campaign boasts dozens of Republican supporters, including former governors, members of Congress and even former Trump administration officials.
A new round of endorsements included several names who had already been openly critical of the former president, such as former Trump spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham, former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, Ill., and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld.
Also on the list was Olivia Troye, former national security adviser to then-Vice President Mike Pence.
So did Chuck Hagel, a Republican from Nebraska who served in the Senate but served as Barack Obama’s Secretary of Defense. Ray Lahood, Obama’s Secretary of Transportation and a former Republican member of the House of Representatives, also endorsed Harris.
“I was a proud Republican, but Donald Trump is unfit to lead our country. We saw during his four years in office how he consistently put himself, his lust for power, and his billionaire friends over the American people, while spreading lies and sowing chaos wherever he went,” Christine Todd Whitman, a Republican former governor of New Jersey and EPA administrator under President George W. Bush, said in a statement.
The list of recommendations was released on Sunday as Harris is expected to announce her choice for her running mate soon.

Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan — who blasted Trump in 2020 over his claims of election fraud in the Peach State — was on the list of endorsements, along with former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar. Former House Reps. Denver Riggleman, Va., Susan Molinari, N.Y., and others. Thirty names were on the list.
Missing from the list was former Rep. Liz Cheney, Wyo., an outspoken Trump critic and a key member of the Jan. 6 subcommittee. She was removed from her House leadership role for criticizing Trump and his challenge to the 2020 election results.
She has not yet come out to express her support in the race.
Many of Harris’s campaign supporters cited the January 6 riots as an expression of their public distaste for Trump.

“As his chief spokesman and one of the longest-serving members of his team, I have seen firsthand the lengths Trump was willing to go to to remain in power, as he did on January 6, and the lies he so easily told to Americans,” Grisham said in a statement.
“I may not agree with Vice President Kamala Harris on everything, but I know she will fight for our freedom,” she continued. “I encourage other Trump administration officials who saw the tyrant we worked for in office to speak out.”
“As a proud conservative, I never thought I would ever support a Democrat,” Kinzinger said.
“Trump is a direct threat to fundamental American values. He cares only about himself and his pursuit of power. That’s what we saw on January 6th when he sent a mob to overturn our lawful election,” he continued. “The stakes are too high to sit on the sidelines.”
