Islamabad, Pakistan – Police fired tear gas and water cannons at supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister and opposition leader Imran Khan outside his residence in the eastern city of Lahore.

The police crackdown on Tuesday came as hundreds of members and supporters of Khan’s Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party gathered outside Khan’s Zaman Park home in an upscale area of ​​the city.

Police said earlier that they went to Khan’s home to hand over two arrest warrants in alleged corruption and “terrorism” cases issued by a court in the capital Islamabad on Monday.

Television footage showed police approaching Khan’s residence accompanied by an armored vehicle. Khan’s supporters also threw stones at the police.

Syed Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari, a senior officer in the Islamabad police, told reporters that the police were planning to arrest Khan.

“We are here to carry out the order and arrest Imran Khan,” he said.
