Heartbreaking reason this photograph of Delta Goodrem has been hidden for 20 years

Delta Goodrem has revealed the harrowing story behind a photo of herself that has remained unseen for 20 years.

The image, taken in 2004, shows the then 18-year-old star in London, promoting her second studio album, Mistaken Identity – a record deeply intertwined with her personal battle with cancer.

While the Australian singer-songwriter was set to embark on an exciting new chapter in her career, her life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Hodgkin lymphoma is a form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Some of the most common symptoms include swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck, armpits or groin, fever, fatigue, night sweats, weight loss and fatigue.

The devastating news meant her plans to perform and promote the album on a global stage had to be put on hold as she focused on her health.

Twenty years later, Delta is now gearing up for a triumphant return to the spotlight, with a highly anticipated tour to celebrate her journey and music.

As the Australian singer-songwriter was about to embark on an exciting new chapter in her career, her life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The tour kicks off with an intimate performance at the Sydney Opera House on April 14, 2025, with an additional show announced for April 15 due to overwhelming demand.

To mark this milestone, Delta has shared this never-before-seen photo from her archives: a candid moment captured during what she describes as one of the most challenging times of her life.

“Mistaken Identity was an album born of raw emotion,” she said The Daily Telegraph.

‘It reflected the shadows and light of my battle with cancer. Each song was very personal and it was my way of connecting with others who were also going through their own struggles.”

Released in November 2004, the album became as much a lifeline for fans as it was for Delta, resonating with listeners for its unflinching honesty.

“Looking back, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the way people embraced the album during that time,” she said. ‘It taught me the incredible power of music to bring us together in our vulnerabilities.’

Audiences, meanwhile, can expect to experience Mistaken Identity like never before as Delta revisits the album that shaped her journey and deeply connected with fans around the world.

It comes after the singer, who rose to fame as Australia’s sweetheart in her teens, announced her new record label which she shares with fiancé Matt Copley.

‘It’s a new era, a new world, with endless possibilities – so I’ve created a new home for my music. Welcome to ATLED Records,” Delta wrote in her post, with “ATLED” spelling her name backwards.

“I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude to the incredible community that has supported me for over twenty years. But times have changed and so have I.’

Delta said it was important for her to have “ownership” of her music.

“Owning my music in an industry that is constantly evolving is an incredible feeling and fuels my artistry and business ventures,” she said.
