Hannah Waddingham reflects on end of Ted Lasso and friendship with Jason Sudeikis – after lambasting sexist red carpet photographer

Hannah Waddingham raved about her close friendship with Ted Lasso co-star Jason Sudeikis as she reflected on the end of their hit comedy after three seasons.

In a preview of her interview TODAY With Willie Geist, airing on Sunday, April 21, the British actress, 49, looked back on how she landed the lead role of Rebecca Welton on her beloved series, for which she won an Emmy in 2021.

Geist said he previously heard the Horrible Bosses star, 48, say he had a “vision” in his head about who would play the unlikely owner of Lasso’s boss on the show.

After several chemistry tests with other actresses, Sudeikis claimed he knew she was the one for the role from the moment she walked through the door.

“I felt that,” the Sex Education star recalled. ‘It made me very emotional when I heard him say that, because he doesn’t just give compliments.

She continued, “He’s very special to me in the sense that someone sees something in me. If someone sees something in you… you don’t want to disappoint them.’

The mother of one also recalled her boyfriend saying that when they met, he “got to see Rebecca first” and later “got to get to know Hannah.”

“That was just beautiful,” she raved. “I always tell him, I’ve never worked so hard to hear someone say ‘mm-hmm’ from behind their moustache.”

“Just that ‘uh-huh,’” she mused. “It doesn’t matter who else is there. It didn’t really matter who was in charge.’

The mother-of-one went on to say that Sudeikis considers the hugely popular TV show his “baby” and says their entire cast was “spoiled senseless” by the talent in the writers’ room, including Brendan Hunt, Brett Goldstein and Phoebe Walsh. .

During the filming of their third and final season, Waddingham said she would ask Sudeikis to be around because she wanted to “get the ending right with him.”

Waddingham’s interview comes just days after she called out a photographer for allegedly making a sexist comment as she arrived to host the Olivier Awards.
