Three people have been killed in a horror accident on a provincial highway just days before Christmas.
The single-vehicle crash happened about 6.30am on Wednesday near Curlewis, about 20km south of Gunnedah in north-west NSW.
The accident has closed the Kamilaroi Highway between Curlewis and Gunnedah. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and monitor www.livetraffic.com for updates.
Three backseat passengers who died at the scene have yet to be formally identified.
The driver – a 24-year-old man – was not injured and was taken to Tamworth Hospital for mandatory tests.

A female front seat passenger was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being flown to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
Officers from Oxley Police District have established a crime scene and an investigation into the incident is underway, along with assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit.
