A wedding guest has offered some sage advice to couples planning their big days, warning them not to invest in disposable cameras.
The disposable cameras, which cost around £17 each, are making a comeback, offering a charming, vintage look and a unique perspective on the day’s events.
However, one Reddit user has suggested it’s a waste of money, saying the single-use cameras often produce a series of random images (some X-rated and some blurry) rather than of the event itself.
User u/fruticosa posted to the r/weddingshaming subreddit on January 20, issuing a “Warning About Disposable Cameras at Weddings.”
A wedding guest has warned couples planning their nuptials not to hand out disposable cameras to guests, calling it a ‘useless’ idea
The groom’s friend concluded that most couples might not get the photos they initially want when they hand out dozens of cameras to guests.
He said: ‘Recently my friend did that thing for his wedding where they passed out lots of disposable cameras throughout the day for guests to take pictures.
“It turns out that some of the guests weren’t concerned about the cameras, or they thought it would be a fun activity to distract their kids.”
He continued, “My friend got the photos back and half of them are useless. One camera was full of blurry photos of rocks, chairs and the grass.”
“Another one was three kids taking cute pictures of each other, yes it’s cute but also useless for the couple. On some cameras, only half the pictures were taken before someone clearly gave up.’
The post received 1.3k upvotes and over 200 comments from both couples and guests who admitted to experiencing similar results – with some further reporting some rather awkward incidents involving a disposable camera.
One person confirmed: ‘I put disposable cameras on all the tables at our wedding in 2009. It was a huge waste of money. I thought people would understand that I wanted fun candids from everyone at the table, but all I got were blurry photos of the entire room. Very few photos (less than 10%) were even worth keeping. My cousin’s stepson took pictures of the inside of his mouth and other guys’ buttocks.’
Meanwhile, others discovered that the use of disposable cameras in the hands of immature guests led to inappropriate photos being taken of people’s underworld.

A former guest wrote: ‘I went to a wedding where this happened and about 30% of the photos were panty shots.’
One person said: ‘I did this at my wedding, quite a stir,’ while another wrote: ‘Yes. I got married in 2001. A lot of the photos were great, and then there were the penises.”
Meanwhile, a developer who worked in a photo shop at a supermarket chimed in with his own experience, writing, “People also don’t think about where the photos are developed.
‘People shopping in the supermarket walked by and stared at the pictures coming out. We didn’t monitor it so people could see the homemade p**n that came in to be developed.”
One shocked person replied: ‘Surely that’s a crime? Essentially flashing/sexually harassing unsuspecting and non-consenting photo developers and recipients of said photos???”
