Google Pay is getting three useful new features to help you save time and money

Google Pay gets three new features that are jointly aimed at making online shopping easier and more transparent. At first, it may seem strange how the tech giant is updating Google Pay as the app goes offline in the United States on June 4.

However, it turns out that the patch is being rolled out to the Google Pay payment system rather than the app itself. The Google Pay app will still be unavailable in about two weeks from the time of writing. You’ll see the following changes appear on desktop and mobile.

According to their announcement postthe company states that “American Express and Capital One cardholders” will now see the benefits they can receive at checkout on the Chrome desktop in the “autofill” drop-down menu. Googling gives the example of someone buying a round-trip flight from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Your American Express Gold Card may offer three times the travel points, while a Capital One Quicksilver Card gives you “1.5 percent cash back on (your) purchase.” There are plans to also “add more maps” in the future.

Next, the Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) payment option will be expanded to more “merchant sites and Android apps in the US.” Google appears to be working with two BNPL services, Affirm and Zip, to make the expansion possible. Exactly which websites and apps are unknown, and Google did not provide any additional details in the post, although we did ask for them.

Autofill update

The first two features are exclusive to people in the United States; however, the Autofill update will be released internationally. In the future, buyers on Chrome or Android will be able to use biometrics or their screen lock PIN to verify card details. This means you no longer have to enter your security code manually.

Autofill normally works smoothly, but Google says that if it detects suspicious transactions, it will prevent payments. Users can also ‘set up device unlock’ so that Google Pay asks you to unlock your smartphone to reveal ‘full card details’. This ensures that your card is not used by other people who may have access to your device.
