Goals galore on Manic Monday! Armchair fans are treated to 14 goals, including two EXCITING matches and one goal from the tournament contender – but Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t compete!

Fans cheered the World Cup ‘Manic Monday’ as the first two games of the day featured 11 goals in total.

In the opening game, scandal-stricken Cameroon came from behind to draw 3–3 with Group G rivals Serbia.

Then Ghana won the second game of the day, beating South Korea 3-2 in Group H to claim their first points of the tournament so far.

Opta reports this on Twitterthis meant it was the first day of multiple five-goal matches at the World Cup since 1990, when Czechoslovakia defeated the USA 5–1 and West Germany defeated Yugoslavia 4–1 on 10 June.

The official FIFA World Cup account may have summed it all up with their simple tweet. “American football.”

Game three gave Brazil a 1-0 win, taking Monday’s goal tally to 12 thanks to Casemiro’s impressive half-volley late in the game.

Portugal then secured a 2-0 victory courtesy of a Bruno Fernandes double as the lead widened to 14, though Cristiano Ronaldo was left frustrated at not being able to join after thinking the first goal had been awarded to him – only for referees to establish that he had not made contact with the ball.

In addition to the officials, the home fans were also delighted with the events on the pitch in Qatar.

One Twitter user responded, saying: ‘What a crazy day of football again’, while another added: ‘What’s happening at the World Cup today, oh my days’.

A third tweeted: “Today’s football has been unreal.”

Many quickly pulled out the calculators as the targets piled up.

One fan wrote: “TODAY HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PURE ENTERTAINMENT!!! 11 GOALS IN 2 MATCHES’, while another commenter said ’11 goals already in less than 2 games today’, before looking ahead to Monday’s other games and adding ‘Wow!’

The craziness of the day started at the Al Janoub Stadium, where Jean-Charles Castelletto opened the scoring for Cameroon within half an hour.

However, Serbia took the lead at half-time through Strahinja Pavlovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Aleksandar Mitrovic put Serbia into a commanding 3–1 lead eight minutes into the second half, only for Vincent Aboubakar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to level the Africans.

Aboubakar’s first finish was initially flagged for offside, but was awarded after a VAR check. It has sparked some calls that it is a contender for the purpose of the tournament, as reported elsewhere by Sportsmail today.

Only an hour after that match, Ghana entered the Education City Stadium in search of the first points of the World Cup. They took the lead through central defender Mohammed Salisu, before Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus doubled the lead before the break.

South Korea came back to level in the second half, with Cho Gue-sung scoring twice. However, Kudus scored a low finish in the 68th minute to secure a 3–2 victory.

There were fewer goals to cherish in the third game of the day, as tournament favorites Brazil scored just once, but Casemiro’s 83rd-minute thunderbolt was enough to beat Group G rivals Switzerland.
