Sam McClymont has revealed the surprising decision she made that ‘saved her life’ following her shock breast cancer diagnosis last year.
The Getaway host and country music star, 38, shared 9Now that her decision to get a second opinion after a doctor told her a lump in her breast wasn’t cancer made all the difference.
“That decision to get a second opinion really saved my life.” While I thought I’d be in hospital at Christmas, I’m now at home with the boys, which is great,” Sam began.
She added that she noticed a suspicious feeling on one of her breasts last year and felt something was wrong even after the medical professional told her it wasn’t cancer.
Sam decided to get a second opinion and after being told it was actually an aggressive form of breast cancer, she started chemotherapy.
‘I had five months of chemotherapy and immunotherapy and then fifteen radiation treatments. I’ve had a lumpectomy, I’m still doing immunotherapy, I have two more surgeries to go.”

The singer added that she was able to endure the grueling treatment sessions with the continued support of her family and friends.
‘Cancer can be such an isolating experience, so it’s nice to know I can share and receive so much love and support.’
In October, Sam revealed how her two young sons are coping as she undergoes chemotherapy while battling breast cancer.
She admitted it was also difficult to explain her diagnosis to her boys, Wilder, six, and Ari, five, but they have been supportive.
“He likes to say to people, ‘This is my mother, she’s bald,’” she said Stellar magazine of her youngest son, Ari.
“It’s not like he’s seeing anyone else like me right now, so I think it’s a protective issue if he wants to call out the elephant in the room before it’s pointed out, ‘Yes, we know mommy is bald.’ Thank you ‘”.
She said her son and husband, pilot Ben Poxon, also helped her shave off her hair, but she “couldn’t be emotional when she looked in the mirror like they were with her.”
Sam previously revealed that she was initially given the all-clear last year after finding a lump in her right breast and went in to get her results assuming it would be good news.

She added that last year she noticed a suspicious feeling on one of her breasts and felt something was wrong even after a medical professional told her it wasn’t cancer.
“I was alone when they told me I had triple negative cancer, the most aggressive breast cancer,” she said.
‘What goes through my head is: I have known this since October and it is now the end of February; How fast has this grown?’
Sam said she had further tests and heard nothing from her doctor, so she returned for her next appointment three weeks later.
“I decided to go to the specialist and see what my options were,” she said Women’s Day.
But she was shocked to learn she had triple negative breast cancer, the most aggressive form.
‘I immediately started crying. He told me about all the treatments, but I couldn’t believe it,” Sam recalled.
Sam has also taken a step back from work as she is currently unable to travel with her TV show Getaway.
Triple negative breast cancer is considered life-threatening because it is aggressive and accelerates the rate at which the cancer can grow and spread.
Common symptoms include breast lumps, swelling, breast or nipple pain, dimpled skin, and nipple discharge.
