Julia Roberts, the Pretty Woman long known as one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, received the Academy Museum Gala Icon Award Saturday at the second annual Academy Museum Of Motion Pictures Gala in Los Angeles.
George Clooney, who starred with Roberts six times during their illustrious career, and his elegant wife Amal Clooney were among the guests to attend the star-studded event.
Last year’s gala managed to raise a whopping $11 million for the museum, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Clooney, 61, made his grand pre-ceremony arrival decked out in a classic black three-piece suit and matching bow tie.
The longtime leading man and philanthropist also wore a white shirt, black dress shoes, while sporting a well-groomed salt-and-pepper beard and mustache.
The two-time Oscar winner seemed to bask in all the attention, as long as his wife was by his side.
The couple, who celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary last month, took a number of poses together for the admiring photographers who couldn’t get enough of the handsome duo.

Given that they’ve starred in six films together, dating back to 2001, it’s only fitting that the Clooneys watch Roberts receive the Icon Award in person.
Julia and George first met on the set of the hit heist movie Ocean’s Eleven (2001), and became “instant friends,” the acclaimed actress said during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The two A-listers also starred together in the biographical spy film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) and the crime thriller film Money Monster (2016).
And now, with the release of the new romantic comedy film Ticket To Paradise (2022) on October 21, that will bring six films that Clooney and Roberts have starred on screen together.
In the new film, the duo play two divorced parents, David and Georgia Cotton, who travel to Bali after learning that their daughter, Lily, is planning to marry a man named Gede, whom she has just met. They decide to team up to sabotage the wedding to prevent Lily from making the same mistake 25 years ago.

The Academy Museum honored Roberts, 54, with the Icon Award for her career as an artist who has had “a significant global cultural impact,” according to Deadline.
“Over the course of her extensive and renowned career, Julia has embodied iconic characters and memorable roles,” said Jacqueline Stewart, director and president of the Academy Museum. “We are delighted to honor her continued excellence in industry and contribution to the arts.”
During the evening, Steve McQueen received the Vantage Award, which goes to ‘an art or scholar who has helped to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives surrounding cinema’.

In addition, Miky Lee received the Pillar Award for “exemplary leadership and support for the Academy Museum,” and Tilda Swinton received the Visionary Award, which goes to an “artist or scholar whose extensive body of work has advanced the art of cinema.”
Roberts made her debut in film and television in 1987 and went on to become one of the top leading ladies, with many of her films grossing over $100 million worldwide, including six being among the highest-grossing films of their respective years.
The Georgia native earned the title of the world’s highest-paid actress throughout most of the 1990s and the first half of the 2000s.
