Katy Perry was literally speechless on Saturday after being invited onstage to sing I Still Call Australia Home at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles.
The American singer, 38, joined a handful of Australian celebrities including Miranda Kerr, Paul Hogan and Delta Goodrem for the patriotic chant but clearly didn’t know the words.
I Still Call Australia Home, written by Peter Allen in 1980, is a song about Australian expatriates’ longing for home and has been used in Qantas advertisements for decades.
For many Australians, especially those living abroad, it is an unofficial national anthem.

But it was painfully obvious to everyone present that Katy, who hails from Santa Barbara, California, was unfamiliar with the track.
The I Kissed a Girl star looked confused as she mumbled the few words she knew while nervously looking at the other stars on stage.
In a particularly embarrassing moment, which aired on Dawn On Monday, Katy froze on camera when Delta shoved the microphone into her face.
During the event, Katy was honored to present model and beauty entrepreneur Miranda with the coveted Excellence in the Arts award.
Before the handover, the duo posed together on the blue carpet.

The gala planned a special tribute to Australian superstar Olivia Newton-John, who died in August at the age of 73.
