Gang of burglars meet their match as they try to storm home of military veteran

Newly released video captures the moment an alleged hitman is gunned down in the central Mexican state of Tlaxcala.

The victim, identified as 23-year-old Jonathan, and members of the gang “Los Barba” were captured on camera attempting to rob a retired military man at his home in the Tlaxcala municipality of Totolac.

Surveillance footage, which leaked on social media on Monday, shows Jonathan walking ahead of the group before they suddenly opened fire at 4:21 p.m. on July 24.

The veteran fired a shot that struck the metal gate of a home as the gang members retreated. Jonathan was then shot and fell to the ground.

One of the wounded gunman’s accomplices, who identifies himself in the video as his brother, later ran back to check on him and shouted at the retired sergeant before kneeling by his friend’s body.

A second video shows Jonathan’s father arriving at the scene in a private SUV at 4:28 p.m. and crying over Jonathan’s body, begging police and soldiers to call an ambulance.

Several officers were seen showing the bullet casings to Jonathan’s father.

The teen’s son was eventually loaded into the car and taken to a local hospital.

Azteca Noticias reported that Jonathan is still in the hospital and is in serious condition.

Several media outlets reported that the shooting was likely sparked by an altercation between the sergeant and gang members at a convenience store.

The gunmen followed him to his home and began shooting before he responded.
