Furious Tottenham reveals Son Heung-min was the target of ‘totally reprehensible’ racist abuse online after their win over West Ham as the club called on social media companies to ‘take action’, just a week after he Brentford’s Ivan Toney outside attacked

Tottenham Hotspur have called on “social media companies and authorities to take action” after Son Heung-min was subjected to “totally reprehensible online racist abuse”.
The racist abuse comes as the 30-year-old scored for Spurs against West Ham in the London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Son scored the second of the game for Spurs and sealed all three points for the home side against their London rivals.
After the match, Tottenham issued a statement via Twitter.
The statement read: “We have been made aware of the totally reprehensible online racist abuse directed at Heung-Min Son during today’s match, which has been reported by the Club.”

This incident also comes just one week after Ivan Toney received a barrage of racist and abusive messages via his Instagram account after Brentford’s game against Arsenal.
Toney scored the equalizer against the league leaders and Brentford issued a statement shortly after.
Brentford’s statement read: “Immediately after Brentford’s match against Arsenal, Ivan Toney received a barrage of abusive and racist direct messages via his Instagram account.
“We are disgusted and saddened that Ivan has had to deal with this once again. We will not stand for it and will do everything we can to prosecute the people involved.”
Toney was also the victim of racist abuse online just four months before this incident, following Brentford’s win against Brighton.
The statement continued: ‘How many times does this have to happen?
“We call on football fans everywhere to enjoy the competition and rivalry that exists between us, but to respect and accept our differences and celebrate the diversity that exists in the Premier League.
‘There is no place for racism’.
The Premier League responded via their official Twitter account, saying: ‘No one should have to face abuse like Ivan Toney received. He has no place in football or in society. We are supporting Iván and the club with the investigations. The Premier League condemns all forms of discrimination. Soccer is for everyone’.
In the Championship, Birmingham striker Troy Deeney was allegedly racially abused after his team lost 2-0 to Cardiff in midweek.
Birmingham issued a statement saying: “After the full-time whistle of Tuesday night’s Sky Bet Championship match against Cardiff City, Troy Deeney and several supporters reported hearing the 34-year-old subjected to racist abuse.”
The club captain and those inside St Andrew’s identified this as coming from the starting section of Gil Merrick Lower as players left the field of play for the players’ tunnel.
“This incident has been referred to the relevant authorities and the club will assist in their investigation.”
