From Oscar gowns to custom designer dresses, celeb kids can choose from some iconic fashion moments.

Instead of going to the mall to pick out a prom dress, the children of the rich and famous can shop closer to home and raid their parents’ closets.

More and more people are digging into the archives and re-wearing some designer gems for their own big occasions, with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolies’ daughters trying out some recognizable looks.

And with designer jewels from the likes of Versace, Alexander McQueen and Dior in the wardrobes, there is plenty of opportunity for the famous children to have their own iconic fashion moment.

Catherine Zeta-Jones’ mini-me daughter Carys wore one of her mother’s iconic dresses for her 21st birthday.

Wearing the Oscar winner’s dusky pink silk and lace slip dress from 25 years ago, Carys looked sensational in the Ungaro number for her milestone birthday.

‘The most perfect 21st I could wish for!’ Carys wrote in her Instagram caption, to which Catherine responded, “You deserve it darling .”

The dress was first worn by Welsh beauty Catherine at the 1999 MTV Movie Awards.

Gwyneth’s 2002 Oscars dress was declared “a fashion disaster” by critics at the time, but that didn’t stop her daughter Apple Martin, 19, from trying it on for size last summer.

Apple, whose father Chris Martin, frontman of Coldplay, posed in the gothic Alexander McQueen dress for an Instagram photo.

Gwyneth shared the stunning photo to her Instagram Stories after a fan asked her, “Does Apple ever carry any of your fashion archives?”

Gwyneth previously told Vogue that she was “hurt” by the criticism of the retrospective in 2002: “Everyone really hated this [dress]…but I think it’s kind of dope,” she said. ‘I’m excited.’

She continues: ‘I had a strange hangover for a while because people were really critical. I think it was too gothic at the time, I think people thought it was too hard, so I think it shocked people a bit. But I like it.’

Leni Klum, 19, was living her dream when it came to choosing her 2022 prom dress, choosing from her model mom’s closet.

The then 18-year-old borrowed Heidi’s strapless slip dress, which she wore to a Comic Relief event in 1998.

Leni posted the dress on social media with the simple caption “gala evening in mommy’s dress,” while her mother commented with a lovesick emoji.

Another celebrity who adapted a look for their prom was Brooke Shields’ daughter Rowan Francis Henchy wore the actress’s famous red Golden Globes dress for her 2021 ball.

Brooke wore the strapless dress in 1998 when she was nominated for Best Television Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series for her show Suddenly Susan.

‘I thought it was a special night when I was nominated for a Golden Globe and wore this dress in 1998, but nothing could have prepared me to see my daughter wearing it to her prom proud mama!’ Brooke wrote on Instagram.

Then-16-year-old Zahara Jolie Pitt raided her mother’s closet while on the red carpet with her siblings and Angelina in 2021.

Zahara was by Angelina’s side for the premiere of Marvel’s Eternals, wearing her mother’s gold Elie Saab Couture gown that she wore to the 2014 Academy Awards.

Angelina opened up about the family fashion at the premiere, revealing: ‘My kids are all mixed vintage and in my old Oscars dress. We did everything vintage and upcycled my old stuff.”

Zahara’s sister Shiloh also borrowed from Angelina, this time for a 2019 event to promote the 2021 film Eternals.

Shiloh wore her mother’s black and white Dior dress that she chose for the 2019 press tour for Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil, adapting the designer garment.

Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber

Kaia Gerber looked just like her supermodel mom Cindy Crawford as she headed to her 18th birthday at The Edition Hotel in New York in 2019.

The catwalk star showed off her model figure in a leather dominatrix-inspired Versace ensemble updated version of the iconic leather dress Cindy wore to the 1992 MTV VMAs.

Kaia channeled her model mom with both her outfit and her voluminous hair for her big night.

Salma Hayek and Valentina Paloma Pinault

Salma Hayek and her daughter Valentina both wowed in the same dress 26 years apart.

Salma wore the Isaac Mizrahi dress to the Fire and Ice Ball in 1997 before lending her 15-year-old daughter the beautiful dress for the 95th annual Academy Awards in 2023.

“We pulled this beautiful Isaac Mizrahi dress for Valentina from Salma’s archives,” Salma’s stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray wrote on Instagram

Damian admitted in a recent interview that he and his mother, 58, are no strangers to sharing clothes.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Damian, 22, while promoting his directorial debut Strictly Confidential, said: ‘I steal leather trousers all the time. Jackets are always great. She steals all the big oversized blazers in a heartbeat.”

And for a Pat McGrath event in 2019, Liz’s lookalike son wore a safety-pin-adorned black Versace suit in tribute to his mother’s most iconic look: the revealing Versace dress that brought her worldwide fame when she wore it to the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994.
