New details emerge about female teacher Hayley Cassell, 32, accused of ‘grooming a teenage girl for sex and assaulting her in a popular Gold Coast shopping centre’

A teacher is accused of indecently assaulting a child for more than a year at several locations on the Gold Coast, including a popular shopping center and hotel.

Hayley Maree Cassell, from Hope Island, was charged in June with 74 offenses of indecent treatment of a child.

Police have also charged her with a range of other crimes, including grooming and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The charge arose after a woman came forward to police and complained about Ms Cassell’s alleged indecent treatment of her when the complainant was a teenager.

According to court documents, the 32-year-old faces 74 charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

She is also charged with grooming, an offense of observations or recordings in violation of privacy, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Court documents show the offenses took place at several locations on the Gold Coast, including the Australia Fair in Southport, a hotel and several home addresses.

The court documents stated that the grooming charge allegedly occurred between January 27, 2015 and July 28, 2016.

They said she allegedly “engaged in conduct” with respect to a person under the age of 16 “with the intent to facilitate the procuring of a sexual act.”

Another indecent treatment offense is alleged to have taken place in Brisbane, according to court documents.

Her charge of attempted perverting the course of justice alleges that she made a false statement under oath before a legal proceeding on July 10, 2017.

Ms Cassell, who remains on bail, was not required to attend Southport Magistrates Court when her case was briefly mentioned on Thursday.

Magistrate Kerry Magee ordered a brief of evidence to be served on Ms Cassell’s lawyer, Thomas McKee, by November 2.

The issue will be raised again on November 11.
