Birmingham City are in talks to appoint former Liverpool academy director Frank McParland to their football pecking order.
The experienced McParland spent ten years at Liverpool and also served as sporting director with teams including Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Rangers.
He is in talks to become Birmingham’s new recruiting director and will work alongside technical director Craig Gardner with whom he is on good terms.
Gardner, 36, is one of the youngest managers in football and is keen to tap into 63-year-old McParland’s extensive network of contacts and in-depth knowledge of the club’s structure.
Cash-strapped Championship club have some talented youngsters in the likes of Jude Bellingham’s brother Jobe and England Under-19 midfielder George Hall, a transfer target for Leeds United, Everton and Liverpool, but they are eager to strengthen their team despite a limited budget and they will. hope McParland’s experience can help.

The Championship side are hoping McParland can find the next Jude Bellingham (back in his Birmingham City days, left), with brother Jobe (right) also breaking into the first team.
McParland’s last role in football was with Forest, where he was appointed director of football in 2017, but left later that year.
He was also on Newcastle United’s shortlist to join the board following the Saudi-backed takeover, but no deal was reached.
McParland joins a struggling Birmingham team that sits 18th in the championship.
