Fox Sports identity Matty Johns reveals ongoing drama with his brother, NRL legend Andrew Johns

Andrew Johns ignores his famous footy star brother Matty and wouldn’t even send him back on his birthday due to Origin feud. “I think I really got under his skin this time”

  • NRL legends Andrew and Matty Johns often disagree
  • Siblings “don’t talk” because of differing views on state of origin
  • Andrew Johns recently said he will not penalize Matty sh*tbagging NSW
  • The breakup is ongoing, Matty Johns told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O

Fox Sports identity Matty Johns has confirmed the ongoing ‘rift’ with his brother Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns, which stems from a recent animated talk on live radio about Queensland’s ability to capitalize on key moments in State of Origin matches.

The siblings, who are close but often disagree on all things rugby, are currently not speaking.

Matty Johns told Kyle and Jackie O KIIS FM listeners on Friday how the latest family feud began — after being cheered on by his son, Sea Eagles five-eighth Cooper Johns.

“I slapped the Queensland Origin team [on SEN Radio recently] and it exploded,” Johns said.

‘You know how he [Andrew] gets, now he won’t talk to me.’

Matty Johns said he tried calling his brother – regarded as one of the greatest rugby league players ever – on Thursday in an attempt to clear the air, but never heard back.

He also texted Andrew to wish him a happy 49th birthday on Friday and got the same reply.

Matty Johns then admitted, “I think I really got under his skin this time.”

In the original radio chat on SEN, Matty Johns praised Maroons coach Billy Slater, who led Queensland to a 2-1 victory in last year’s series, despite facing a NSW team many pundits considered much more talented .

It prompted Matty Johns to state that Slater is ‘close to the best coach in the game’, his players ‘love him’ and the Queensland side have mastered their game plan year after year.

The comments irked Andrew – the youngest of the Johns siblings – whose subsequent snipe at his brother was vicious.

‘Put on your Maroons sweater. I couldn’t give it. I’m not even looking at Queensland. I don’t care who they choose,” he said.

“Keep blowing hot air up their asses. You said they are easy to admire. You grew up hating them.’

Andrew Johns, on the other hand, is widely regarded as NSW’s greatest ever Origin player (pictured, in 2005)

Last July, Matthew used a radio debate on State of Origin as an opportunity to lash out at his brother about his love life.

The NSW side are known for regularly dropping stars from their squad – while Queensland are known for showing more loyalty to their players.

Matty used Andrew – who is in his third long-term relationship – to summarize the Blues’ selection process.

“It’s all of NSW. I want people to know… be extremely concerned. Don’t marry someone from NSW because we fall in love with new acquaintances very easily,” he said on SEN.

“What you do is you just get rid of them. Just bring someone else in.

“I mean, the best example is our best player ever, Andrew Johns, I think he’s on the trail of his third wife.”
