Arabella Del Busso appeared at Sutherland Local Court in south Sydney on Friday and applied to move the date of her February 10 hearing.

Del Busso pleaded not guilty to the charges and told the court that he wanted to delay his hearing while he sought legal representation.

He explained that he had retained a lawyer, but was unable to retain him due to Covid-related delays in the court process.

Del Busso told the court that he could not afford a new lawyer for the hearing.

He appeared via video link explaining that he had been abroad for the last three months and would not return to Australia until May.

Del Busso said he needed to earn a little more money while living abroad in order to pay for his legal representation. the daily telegraph informed.

“I am asking for time to make more funds to have legal representation,” Del Busso said.

“I don’t feel comfortable coming to court without a legal team.”

Del Busso told the court that he did not know the date of the hearing until November of last year, even though it had been set for April.

The police prosecutor opposed changing the hearing date, saying Del Busso had “numerous opportunities” to hire a lawyer.

He told the court that Del Busso had chosen to go abroad despite the fact that the hearing date had been set more than 10 months in advance.

Judge Hugh Donnelly decided not to change the date of the hearing saying it was in the public interest to proceed with it.

He said the 32-year-old woman faced “serious” charges and could be jailed if convicted.
