Former AFLW player and commentator Abbey Holmes has joined the AFL All-Australian selection panel and will also vote on the competition’s Rising Star Award.
Holmes replaces former Geelong Cats premiership captain Cameron Ling, who steps down after 11 years on the panel and will help select the All-Australian squad and team, the Mark of the Year, the Goal of the Year and the Ron Evans Medal. for the 2024 AFL Rising Star Award.
The elevation to new roles within the AFL will give the selection panel a new look, with new CEO Andrew Dillon, football boss Laura Kane and operations manager Josh Mahoney joining Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Glen Jakovich and Matthew Pavlich add. .
Holmes was a premiership player with the Adelaide Crows in 2017, playing every match in the inaugural AFLW season, having also played for the Waratah Football Club in the NTFL and becoming the first woman in the competition to score more than 100 goals in a season made.
Following her playing career, Holmes has become a highly respected football commentator on the Seven Network.

“Abbey has had a distinguished playing career and is now in her ninth season as an expert commentator and boundary rider for Channel 7. She analyzes the game closely every week,” said Dillon.
